Well, it’s out on Wednesday, but I probably won’t be able to see it on Wednesday, so I’ll see it on Thursday. I’ve had fun watching these, although I will freely admit that they weren’t as absolutely awesome as The Lord of the Rings trilogy. They’re just reasonably awesome… which is more of a problem than one might think. I mean, how can a film measure up against The Fellowship of the Ring, which was just insanely ridiculously good? It seems almost unfair to expect it to.
Half of you will hate it, half of you will love it – and half of you who hate it will be going to see it on the first night anyway, and half of you who love it will be wincing at That Scene (you’ll know it when you see it, trust me). Me? …I’m good, thanks.
What’s that? ‘Liberties taken with the text?’ Sorry, Peter Jackson is too busy doing the fiddly bits in a final movie in a trilogy that’s just for me. Not that he can even hear you, over the sound of all that money…
Some of you are going to freak out. I’m not myself on the list of people who are freaking out, you understand: but some of you are going to watch that trailer, blink a couple time, and then manifest your inner ragenerd. I’m not judging. Your privilege.
