Joe Biden begs me to vote.

One of the weirder aspects of this gig is all the spam I get from Democrats. For those of you who aren’t in the Life, let me explain: it used to be that signing up for the Other Side’s mailing lists was a relatively easy way to see what agendas and events Democrats were pushing. Makes sense, right? By looking at what they tell their supporters, you get a feel for what the Democrats think is important. And that is often going to be different than what you thought the Democrats think is important.

Alas, like everything else involving the Democrats Barack Obama got his hands on it, and has made the entire exercise useless. Based on my inbox, the important message that Democrats have for their supporters these days is typically either We think Republicans are horrible: give us money or We have a contest. We have a contest. WE HAVE A CONTEST. Give us money.  And, indeed, the Democrats get money out of that.  The Democrats have also seen their polling numbers slide all summer, and while I have no proof that the two data points are related it certainly sounds like they should be, no? Tweet of the Day, Joe Biden Didn’t Even Stay Civil Until The Election edition.

I’m not saying that Joe Biden didn’t talk a good game…

but in 2008 Joe Biden was given the opportunity to draw a line in the sand and make the Obama campaign retract its mockery of a torture victim. Joe Biden apologized for that mockery… and then just stood there, silently, while the campaign humiliated him by retracting that apology, and adding more. And he has never said a word about that shameful incident since.

Joe Biden is not a good person. Even worse: he is a coward.

Sure, Joe Biden thinks that he’s got a shot at 2016.

I don’t know if Glenn Reynolds is any more surprised than I am at the idea that Joe Biden would think that, though. Even if you don’t agree with #2 or #3 in the list below, surely we can all agree with #1 , yes? After all, not having a shot has never stopped Joe Biden from making a run for the nomination anyway.

Anyway, there are three main reasons why Biden thinks that he has a shot:

  1. He’s Joe Biden.  I sometimes wonder what it’s like, there inside Joe Biden’s head. I suspect that it is a place with no soft edges; there are probably no unicorns, but there may be a wise standing stone or two to whisper on the wind the earth lore of the petty-gods.
  2. More pragmatically, he’s the Vice President of the United States. That’s not a bad place from where to launch a Presidential campaign.  It may or may not be the best place, but it’s certainly a legitimate place to start when it comes to getting the nomination.
  3. Look at the field. Seriously. Hillary Clinton is his most likely opponent, and the media has been hammering her ‘inevitability’ mostly because they hope that if they do then nobody will notice that she’s a horrible campaigner with bad political instincts. And after that, there is a deeeeeep chasm before you get to the next clump of candidates, like O’Malley and Schweitzer and Warren.

Personally, I don’t really care whether the Democrats nominate the old white guy with health problems, or the old white woman with health problems. From my point of view, either will be fine. For a given value of ‘fine,’ of course – and it’s a value that the Democratic party would not share.

:snort: Joe Biden’s candidacy ‘in danger’ of being ridiculous.

Submitted without comment. With snickering, maybe, but without comment.

Joe Biden’s prospective presidential candidacy is in danger of becoming a joke.

Peter Beinart, of course. Trust a member of the antiwar movement to write something like that… OK, so there was one comment. Continue reading :snort: Joe Biden’s candidacy ‘in danger’ of being ridiculous.

Joe Biden is running for President, bless his heart.

And he thinks that he can do it via populism, bless his heart again: “Vice President Joe Biden appeared at a closed-door fundraiser in South Carolina Friday and delivered what one attendee called “an Elizabeth Warren-type speech” about the struggles of America’s middle class, remarks that were well-received by a room full of influential primary state Democrats.” Fun fact: Joe Biden has been a member of the political class longer than I have been alive, and a Senator since before my wife’s birth. I would pay good money to see him try to run an actual retail establishment for a month…

PS: Elizabeth Warren has even less idea about what motivates blue-collar and middle class people than Joe Biden does.  She’s also about one-third as personable as her admirers think she is.  As I said on Twitter: I salivate at the thought of a Biden/Warren ticket in 2016: out-of-touch, oblivious, and old (Warren will be 67 in 2016, and the Republican candidates will not).

So, DOES @HillaryClinton or @JoeBiden think that Israel is heading towards an apartheid state?

Can we get them on the record about that, thanks?  – Because I’m sure that the answer would be… illuminating.

Moe Lane

PS: I’d ask Elizabeth Warren that, too, except that she’s smart enough to lie and say no – but not skilled enough to make that lie anything but a five-minute fumble-tongued exercise in excruciating tedium.

“And I brought up the Vice President of the United States…CHUCK.”

That’s Reince Priebus’s punchline to the exchange that started here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECouXIsPqfI&feature=youtu.be&t=1m30s

Details here: basically, Chuck Todd opened with a bid of a (female, if it matters) TX GOP executive director saying that men made for better negotiators.  Reince raised by pointing out that Joe Biden once claimed that the goal of the GOP was to re-enslave black people, Chuck tried to suggest that that Reince has to answer for stuff said by people in positions of authority, Reince ripostes with Vice President of the United States, Chuck changes the subject.

Victory: Reince Priebus. Continue reading “And I brought up the Vice President of the United States…CHUCK.”

Joe Biden is so totally running in 2016. And that’s a problem for the Democrats.

Fascinating Politico article here about Joe Biden and his desire to run in 2016.  Here is the basic problem, in a nutshell: Hillary Clinton is more or less qualified to be President* – or, at least, the Democratic nominee for President – but she is a horrible campaigner and nobody likes her.  People like Joe Biden, and he is better at the entire campaigning thing.  However: by the time 2016 rolls around “close to the Obama administration” is not going to be a selling point in the general election… and while both Clinton and Biden severely suffer from that problem, Biden suffers from it a heck of a lot more. Joe Biden determined to harsh your mellow.

Guess what?  Notorious War on Some Drugs warrior Joe Biden ain’t planning to change his spots:

The Obama Administration is not pushing marijuana legalization on the federal level, Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday in an exclusive interview with TIME.

Just weeks after President Barack Obama told the New Yorker that the drug is no more dangerous than alcohol, Biden said the Administration supports smarter enforcement, but not outright legalization. “I think the idea of focusing significant resources on interdicting or convicting people for smoking marijuana is a waste of our resources,” Biden told TIME in an interview aboard an Amtrak train on the way to an event in Philadelphia. “That’s different than [legalization]. Our policy for our Administration is still not legalization, and that is [and] continues to be our policy.”

Nasty South Carolinian bigot Dick Harpootlian visited White House.

Way to bury the lead there, Wall Street Journal. Forget various Democrats whining about where that sweet, sweet campaign contribution money is going: this is a bit more pressing.

[Dick] Harpootlian said he visited Joe Biden, the other most prominent potential 2016 contestant, in the White House about a month ago and told the vice president he would support him if he decides to run.
