And not just because GHOSTS ON AN ALIEN WIND is in there. Book three of the Republic of Texas Navy series is on the list, which is cool, because I’d been waiting for book two. I’m also grabbing ODD MAGIC: TALES OF THE LOST, because the cover art reminds me of a story that I’ve been meaning to write for a while myself. Go check out that list; maybe there’s some stuff on it you’d be interested in, too.

Book of the Week: Uncharted.
Uncharted is the first in the new Arcane America series by Kevin J Anderson and Sarah Hoyt, and it has proven to be most diverting. As you might have guessed, it’s alternate history fantasy (magic returns in 1759 and promptly cuts off America from Europe), set in the early 1800s and telling of a somewhat different Lewis and Clark Expedition. I look forward to the upcoming books in the series, although I suspect that they’re going to be somewhat more violent than the inhabitants might suspect. Can’t say why without spoilers.
And so, adieu to Stark’s War.
Just finished Darkship Thieves…
…by Sarah Hoyt. Darkship Thieves was pretty good mid-to-late-period Heinleinesque science fiction; I’ll be picking up its sequel Darkship Renegades once various cash reservoirs refill, assuming that they do.
Glenn Reynolds was talking up @SarahAHoyt’s latest book…
…on his site; it (Darkship Renegades) is the second book in the series, so I figure that I’ll grab the first one (Darkship Thieves) and give THAT a read, first.
What the heck: book recommendation thread. I do read ’em, even if I don’t always respond; besides, other people may not have read a book even if I have.
