Four days until the TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION Vol 1 Kickstarter!

Starting next Tuesday. For those unaware, TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION Vol 1: THE SHADOW OF THE TOWER is a collection of short stories set in the same universe as my first novel FROZEN DREAMS. It is not a sequel to FROZEN DREAMS, although there is an original Shamus Tom Vargas prequel in it. Come to think of it; I believe that story hasn’t actually been published on Patreon yet, so people who back the project will get that and at least one more original story before anybody else does.

The TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION Vol 1 Kickstarter begins in six days!

If you’re interested in passing that information around, you can tell folks to sign up for launch notifications here, or the mailing list here. I’m trying to hit a target of 35 Kickstarter followers for this project, and every little bit helps. For that matter, if you know somebody who needs a distraction feel free to send ’em this link to FROZEN DREAMS. Because, really, every little bit helps.

Reviewing edits, TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION Vol 1.

First story’s back from the editor; gratifyingly, it had a reasonable lack of the editing oopsies I kept making when I was writing FROZEN DREAMS. Editing going on, artwork back from the artist… at this rate, I’m going to start believing that I have another book in the process of being published. Geez.

Kickstarter starts on 10/20/2020. Sign up here for the launch notification.

The TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION Vol 1 Kickstarter launches in a week!

I’ve been fiddling with the rewards tier and the stretch goals; I’ve got a blue-sky stretch goal that I don’t really expect to hit, but if I do then it’ll simplify next year considerably. I like Kickstarter, but I don’t want to over-use it or even rely on it too recklessly. The sooner I don’t need it, the better for everybody, right?

PS: Spreadsheets. Not a ridiculous number of them, but whoever first told me there would be no math in a writing career was a filthy, filthy liar.

The book cover for TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION continues apace.

I think it’s going to come out real nice.

The artist is Chris Hazelton (who I know from 6 Gun Mage, but he’s more well known for Misfile). It was a little more ‘modern’ post-apocalyptic than I had actually imagined, but we’re going to go with it. As a matter of symbolism it works extremely well with the theme of the anthology. And I wish I had thought of the Seattle Needle bit. I’m totally stealing that.

The TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION Kickstarter goes live 10/20/2020.

It’s a short story anthology set in the Fermi Resolution world, spanning a millennium of war and conflict. TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION will feature a combination of Patreon and new stories, including a never-before-seen Tom Vargas novelette! I can’t wait for people to read it.

Short story collection file off to the editor!

Huzzah! And why do I do this! I’ve stared at the stories for so long now I hate them! And love them again! I need a drink!

PS: Keep watching this space for details about the upcoming Kickstarter. I’m still waiting to see if there are any cover art sketches in progress I can use to make the Kickstarter look good. And, yeah, enjoy the quiet before the storm.

Spent the morning going over beta reads for TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION.

I’ve got another to go through, later — but there’s a limit to how many times I can read a text before my eyes begin to glaze over. I will say that so far I got at least one comment that made me swear at myself for not seeing that possibility right away, so the beta read was worth it, right there. I figure I can get TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION, VOLUME I: SHADOW OF THE TOWER to the editor by the end of the month. Then the Kickstarter in November, and hopefully publication by February.

Huzzah!

Progress report on the TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION Kickstarter.

There is a bit of news, in fact.

  • First off, there is going to be a Kickstarter: today I started putting together what I’ll need to set one up. I expect that the start date will be November 1, 2020, with a February 2021 fulfillment date.
  • The working title will be TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION, VOLUME I: SHADOW OF THE TOWER. 10 stories, including an excerpt from the upcoming MORGAN BAROD novel and a Tom Vargas novelette!
  • I don’t know if this one is going to have an audiobook. Audible has been moderately incompetent about approving a commercial version; it’s possibly not fair to put my producer through all those hoops over this again. Or at least so soon.
  • But! We have an editor for the short story collection, and I’ve almost formalized getting an artist for the cover.

So things are moving along.
