Yeah. Cosmic horror shouldn’t be this dull. And yet, there’s no reason it shouldn’t be, is there? That’s the entire point of an indifferent cosmos that doesn’t care in the slightest about how you feel about things; sometimes you’re not even allowed the dignity of having bad things inexorably happen to you.

I can grok the branch where Cass over Pierce begins; what I don’t get is how Buchanan still gets elected.
Now I’m imagining a world where this sort of thing just… happens. Like, “enormously powerful inhuman entities from beyond the stars keep futzing with us in little ways in pursuit of their own incomprehensible agendas, but it’s actually not that big a deal.”
