As “Changes In Taste” suggests, it must really suck in the modern world if your self-identity is esoterically dependent on humanity’s collective vision of you. No wonder most contemporary fantasy is so gritty, really. Nobody’s even taking the trouble to give them any metaphysical aspirin.
