Watched Episode 1 of THE MANDALORIAN.

It did not suck! I was wondering if it would. But THE MANDALORIAN’s first episode, at least, delivers the goods on action. I just hope that they don’t do something stupid, like make the actor take his helmet off or decide that he doesn’t really need to be a hyper-professional bad-ass if that gets in the way of him having feelings. He should be a hyper-professional bad-ass who’s so good he can shoot around his feelings. That’s what they did in the first episode, and it worked out OK.

‘Course, that was just the first episode. Later ones might suck. Call no show good until its cancellation.

So, there *will* be an ANT-MAN 3, then.

I was wondering.

The Ant-Man corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will continue to be Peyton Reed’s Place. The director, who helmed 2015’s Ant-Man and 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, has signed on to helm a third Ant-Man movie, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Disney+ will let subscribers download streaming content.

Well, that’s helpful. My kids are currently waiting patiently for GRAVITY FALLS again*; the news that we’ll be able to download the seasons and still be able to watch them even if they go off the Disney+ rotation is welcome. It all goes away if you stop subscribing, of course. Because the Mouse ain’t stupid.

The Obligatory STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER trailer.

I know, I know. This is not a welcome cultural artifact, for many of you. But I still retain a stubborn liking for the films. It’ll all be moot in three months anyway, because then STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER will be out and the Empire will smoothly segue to churning out TV shows until the sun runs out of hydrogen to fuse into helium. And, truly: is that not amusing, in and of itself? I submit to you that it is.

I TOLD YOU ALL Sony would deal and give up 25% of Spider-Man to Disney. I DID.

I absolutely did. August 23rd.

I figure that Sony will try to seriously hold Disney to getting 20% or 25%, instead of the 5% that the Mouse is getting now. Since Disney was asking for 50%, that may even be doable.

Disney+ raiding old Marvel cartoon libraries?

Yes! Well, at least in the Netherlands:

Disney’s upcoming streaming service Disney Plus may be the new home of some classic Marvel animated television shows. A free trial version of the service in the Netherlands revealed a host of animated shows on the service. Disney has not yet confirmed if these titles are Netherlands exclusive, or if the titles will be available in other countries.

The titles showcased include X-Men ’92 Spider-Man ’94, Spider-Woman ’79, Spider-Man ’81, Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, Iron Man ’94, Fantastic Four ’94, Incredible HulkSilver Surfer, and Spider-Man Unlimited.

Although the only reason why I can imagine that they wouldn’t would be for rights reasons. Seems like a no-brainer; not to mention, an instant nostalgia bomb. I can’t wait to see how much Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, the beloved show of my youth, actually sucked! I’m more worried that Incredible Hulk will, though. Nostalgia is a two-bladed weapon.

OK, fine: the remake of LADY AND THE TRAMP maybe makes sense.

It’s a mix of live-action and CGI, which is maybe what they would have done with the first Lady and the Tramp if they had the tech for it. Only maybe: I’m not sure when Disney was really capable of suchlike things. But I can sort of see an artistic reason for wanting to remake this one.

I mean, sure: they want to make another mint off of this movie. That’s the prime reason for the remake. But the rationalization isn’t so bad, this time.

Disney+ announcing more Marvel shows.

Presumably at least some of them are going to be animated, because the three in development being announced are Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk. I dunno about Moon Knight, but even today a stretchy shape-shifter and a Big Green Gal would challenge an episodic series*. Having animators just makes more sense to me.
