Back from Doxacon!

It went well! Good sales, a couple of hopefully profitable discussions, and both of the panels I went to (“Popery in Prose: The Incarnational Aesthetic of Nineteenth Century Gothic [Dracula by Bram Stoker]” and “Revealing the Numinous in TTRPGs”) were quite interesting and informational. If you can make Doxacon in 2025 and you’re interested in the intersection of faith and fandom, I really do recommend it. Especially if they stay at the Catholic University of America. It was so much easier to set up and break down, this year.

Looks like I’ll be vending at Doxacon again.

They’re having Doxacon at the Catholic University of America this go round, November 1st and 2nd. I’m definitely going to catch Ken Hite’s talk on ‘Revealing the Numinous in TTRPGs,’ and hopefully Lia Lewis’s ‘The Incarnation: Humanity’s Next Chapter and The Children of Men,’ if there’s no scheduling conflict*. I’m also going to be selling my books there, as per usual for me these days with regard to conventions. If you’re in the area, come on by!

Applied to vend at Doxacon again this year.

I went to Doxacon last year only mildly to sell books. What I really wanted to do there was meet Ken Hite in person for once, and to humbly bask in the terrible glory that is Tim Powers. I didn’t sell that many books, but I got to do the aforementioned meeting and basking, so there you go.

Off to DoxaCon!

I’m up early, yes. The way traffic is where I’m going, even on a Saturday morning, ’tis advisable. I don’t know my Internet situation there, so maybe I’ll be posting – and maybe I won’t.

See you later!

DoxaCon in a week!

I’m selling books at it, sure — but DoxaCon is interesting because I’m looking forward to going to a couple of the panels. I’d still be going if I wasn’t selling books, honestly. Not that I’ll mind if I sell a bunch of books there…

The DoxaCon schedule is up!

And can be found here. Of most interest to me:

  • 9:30–10:30am — Lay Keynote – Fantasy Fiction Through a Catholic Lens (Tim Powers)
  • 2:00pm — The Man Who Shot Joseph Curwen (Kenneth Hite)

Well, there’s also the 3:20 panel, but I am doing vending at the convention. I need to be actually sitting at the table if I want to sell any books. Especially since it looks like vending only takes place the one day (Saturday, November 4). I think I will be taking a minimalist approach for this one: I shouldn’t bring too many books, and probably should just stick to a display that can be easily put together and taken apart. Something to think about.

Hrm. That dinner. Is that something I need to dress for? I’m not entirely sure of all the social, heh, conventions…
