#rsrh Richard Goldstone can go [expletive deleted].

I didn’t remember this guy at first – but when you read something that’s this self-serving, teeth-grittingly apologetic, and preemptively defensively whining, then you just know that the original must have been a true masterwork in the fine art of Getting It All Wrong.

So it is in this case: Goldstone was the guy behind a 2009 UN report that accused Israel of war crimes in the 2008 Gaza attacks.  A remarkably inaccurate report, too – which, as the first link shows, Goldstone is rather bitterly admitting right now.  Not that it matters, given that the damage has been done – which is why I’m not particularly interested in forgiving and forgetting this time around.  In fact, I’d like to be a lot earthier about this…

#rsrh The Two Obama Israel UN Letters.

It’s funny: while I’m willing to bet that everybody decent reading this post will look at this Israel-hating letter (via Jen Rubin, via Instapundit) and mutter “I’m not surprised to see that scumbag’s name on there” I’m pretty sure that we will all have different scumbags in mind.  For my part… it’s a tough call, but I’m going to go with Chas Freeman for my Special Scumbag: it takes a special kind of guy to encourage the ChiComs to punch their dissidents harder, but Freeman was up to the challenge.  I don’t recognize all the rest of the names, but the ones that I do recognize all provoke the same mixed revulsion/disgust/contempt.  Just not as strongly.

Anyway, Jen’s betting that President Obama’s more likely to go with the advice from these people, and I hope and think that she’s right.  I mean, yeah, I’ve had issues with every Democratic Senator on that list and everything – but given a choice between them and the people on the other letter, well…

PS: I quite enjoy being hated by anti-Semites, thanks.  Any decent person would: it’s quite the pick-me-up.

#rsrh Sir, if they were *MOSSAD* sharks…

you’d never have caught them.

Egyptian officials say they have not ruled out the possibility that a fatal shark attack in Sinai on Sunday could have been a plot by the Mossad.

“What is being said about the Mossad throwing the deadly shark [in the sea] to hit tourism in Egypt is not out of the question, but it needs time to confirm,” South Sinai Gov.

#rsrh Some silver lining.

It is depressing that this need even be written:

Thanks to the videos and testimonies made available by the Israeli government, we know more or less exactly what happened during this incident, and it completely contradicts the version being constantly vomited over all of us by Israel’s critics over the past few days.

These critics (there are less dignified, though more accurate terms with which to describe them, but I will digress for the sake of probity) claim that the Israeli commandos came on board firing weapons and wantonly slaughtering innocent peace activists. The videos prove that the commandos boarded the ship carrying non-lethal weapons and that no shots were fired. They further prove that the soldiers were immediately attacked by a mob armed with clubs, knives, and other deadly weapons. Videos and photographs corroborate commandos’ testimony that they were beaten, stabbed, and taken hostage until they finally reacted with the deadly force necessary to save themselves.

In response to this evidence, most politicians, journalists, and activists around the world have ignored it, lied about it, or tried to claim that it is simply not true.

That would be because ‘anti-Semitism is the Socialism of fools’ (hardcore Socialism/Communism, of course, is the intellectual movement of choice for idiots*) – and there are a lot of fools out there holding down jobs that impinge upon public policy.  I understand that seeing all of this revealed is useful for the long-term survival of Western society, but couldn’t we have just isolated out the gene that encourages this sort of idiocy, created a targeted virus that made said holders of the gene turn a visible (and harmless) shade of green, and solved the problem that way?

J Street apologist miscounts Israeli options.

Of course he does.

This is amusing, in a darkly humorous sort of way:

More recently, Daniel Levy, director of the Middle East Task Force at the New America Foundation and a member of J Street, said in an interview: “America has three choices. Either say, it’s politically too hot a potato to touch, and just pay the consequences in the rest of the world. Or try to force through a peace deal between Israelis and Palestinians, so that the Palestinian grievance issue is no longer a driving force or problem.” The third choice, he said, “is for America to say, we can’t solve it, but we can’t pay the consequences, so we will distance ourselves from Israel. That way America would no longer be seen, as it has been this week, as the enabler of excesses of Israeli misbehavior.”

Via Hot Air. It’s darkly humorous because there are five options here, not three – which Daniel Levy knows full well. Continue reading J Street apologist miscounts Israeli options.

Braver than *me*, probably.

Hey, weird historical fact: did you know that there was a time in history when the term ‘Jewish’ actually had connotations of cowardice attached to it? No, really! There was this entire bizarre stereotype where Jews were supposedly fearful and unwilling to confront those who opposed them.

Unlike, you know, this kid, who calmly walked into a crowd of screaming California leftists while waving an Israeli flag.

Israel intercepts Gaza blockade runners: 14 dead.

The Israelis are very, very serious about maintaining said blockade:

At least 14 people were killed and 50 were injured early Monday as the Israeli Navy took over the ships taking part in the aid sail to Gaza, Arab and Turkish media reported.

The IDF reported that four soldiers were injured during the takeover from live ammunition and knife stabbing. One of the troops was said to be in serious condition and three in light to moderate condition. The injured were evacuated to the Chaim Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer by helicopter.

According to an IDF source, “The sail’s participants were not innocent and used violence against the soldiers. They were waiting for the forces’ arrival.”

#rsrh Nixon: China :: Obama: …Israel?

The implications of that analogy by Ed Driscoll (guesting for Instapundit) – that Obama would there be an American President visiting a country that is in opposition to his ideology – are… disturbing.

No, not because it’s self-evidently a silly analogy.  It’s not self-evidently a silly analogy.  That’s why it’s disturbing.

PS: If you’re keeping score, I don’t think that the President actively hates Israel, in anything like the same intensity found by your average antiwar activist.  I do think that he doesn’t grok what the consequences of his actions are when it comes to Israel, which is highly problematical right there.
