The MEGALOPOLIS Honest Trailer.

Is it weird that this Honest Trailer of MEGALOPOLIS kind of makes me want to see the movie now? I originally did, but then I didn’t, and then I did again. Then I heard the reviews and the audience reaction, which just made me appreciate it as a long, involved ‘it’s my money and I can do what I like with it’ exercise on the director’s part.

Now I dunno.

MEGALOPOLIS is apparently baffling critics.

I find this to be highly entertaining. The bafflement, I mean. It’s like Francis Ford Coppola is deliberately trying to make critics’ heads snow crash, because at this point of his life, why not? Or maybe… well, Robert Anton Wilson once put forth the notion that every true guru is quietly desperate to have people treat them like gurus. Maybe this is Coppola’s payback for being treated like his excrement didn’t reek*.

So, will I see MEGALOPOLIS? Danged if I know. It may not be showing near me. I might have to wait until it hits DVD.

*Seriously, that can be annoying.

The ‘I’m talking myself into it’ MEGALOPOLIS trailer.

MEGALOPOLIS has got this really weird vibe to it. I’d almost say Coppola had read THE FOUNTAINHEAD* recently, except that’s almost literally impossible – or at least, he’d never admit to it in public like this if he had. Maybe he just read Tom Wolfe instead. You can still get away with that in Hollywood.

*Ayn Rand is not really my cup of tea, but we might have been all better off if she had dropped the political stuff and concentrated on writing about architecture.
