RedState Gathering – Marco Rubio interview.

As always, this isn’t the video of the speech and Q&A afterward (as you may have realized by now, reader Dave_in_Fla went above-and-beyond and taped large hunks of the proceedings); this was instead him taking the time to answer a few quick questions after the fact. Very determined man, and he has an impressive speaking ability generally.

His site is here.

RedState Gathering – Nikki Haley (R Cand, SC-GOV) interview.

Another quick interview, this time with Nikki Haley. She’s another candidate that I’ve been following, and I’m very pleased that she was able to attend the Gathering. As mentioned earlier, footage of her actual comments and question-and-answer session will be made available later.

At the RS Gathering (Friday Night)…

…and I have just determined that while I have a laptop, I have an internet connection, and I have a video camera (currently holding two clips of Pat Toomey) – I do not have a cable that will allow me to transfer video from the camera to the laptop, and then use to show the rest of you via the Internet.

So expect a whole lot of video downloading on Sunday, apparently.

PS: If you’re here and looking for me, I’m the guy wearing a ninja union local 1231 t-shirt. It’s a Megatokyo reference: sorry.

PPS: It is raining quite a bit out, yes. Half of our Contributors are still in the air, trying to get to Atlanta

PPPS: The mystery guest speaker is very cool; the room erupted in spontaneous applause when the name was announced.

So, this is how today is going.

Tomorrow morning I get on a flight to Atlanta for the RedState Gathering: in the meantime, a combination of family visiting, packing, and decreasing my library by a third is pretty much paramount.  That means the free ice cream’s going to be sparse for a bit, and by bit I mean several days.

My own, personal 2Q fundraising deadline.

Sounds pretentious, yup – but what the heck. Today’s the last day of the second quarter, and the RS Gathering (July 31 – August 1) is rapidly beginning to loom. I’m about 1/3rd of the way there to being able to pay for the hotel and airline fare, so feel free to hit the tip jar:

What? Alas, no, very few of us in the VRWC get paid for doing this stuff. My job is being a stay-at-home dad; rewarding work, but not particularly subsidized. so… no travel budget, no expense account, everything’s pretty much out-of-pocket. [Shrug] Such is life.

‘Secrets of the Blog-Fu Temple Cult.’

Somewhat ironically, given this passage from this The Other McCain article:

Wise men may observe that sensei Moe Lane has never published a book called Secrets of the Blog-Fu Temple Cult. Nor will he ever, not even posthumously. Hell’s bells, if I had an infallible formula for political success (please note the hypothetical), I’d be afraid even to write it on a cocktail napkin, for fear it might accidentally be published and deprive me of future opportunities for free lunches.

…but I actually am putting together some thoughts on the topic of the practical aspects of blogging: I’ve been doing it since 2003 or thereabouts, after all (mostly on RedState, of course). I was planning to give a brief talk on the subject at August’s RS gathering, in fact – which I don’t think is too much of a security risk, given that you have to pay to get in.  That is, assuming that I can get the money together to go…

Hint, hint.

PS:  If the talk works out, I may try to reprise it for RootsHQ.
