It is *snowing.* *Again.*

Anybody got some perfluorocarbons? That’s the stuff that causes global warming, right? – Because right now I’d be outside spritzing the area with my spray deodorant if I thought it’d do any good.

PS: On the bright side: they’re not going to declare Maryland to be a drought area any time soon.

PPS:

PPPS: Orrrrr we could be in the middle of a flood warning. Apparently, we live downstream of a dam.

Just a general observation about #obamacare signups.

Deadline – well, OK, there’s now effectively no deadline – but the deadline was tomorrow, and the administration seems to be absolutely, obsessively focused on getting as close to seven million ‘sign-ups’ as they can possibly manage by then. I wonder how many defenders of the administration have themselves focused on that number, to the exclusion of everything else? – Because the law is not getting more popular as the signup process continues. Quite the opposite, really.

Now, no doubt you will hear people bray on about how the Right is doomed and we’re all terrified about seven million, yadda yadda; and no doubt the media will play that up. But I wonder how that argument will stack up in November against “Hi. Three-fourths of you who were previously insured had your rates go up. In this economy.”

Guess we’ll see (said he, smiling).

Possible voter fraud involving Covered California. DEFINITE incompetence in handling it.

For the record, even if this story is true I still do not think that this represents a concerted effort:

A local couple called 10News concerned after they received an envelope from the state’s Obamacare website, Covered California. Inside was a letter discussing voter registration and a registration card pre-marked with an “x” in the box next to Democratic Party.

The couple – who did not want their identity revealed – received the letter and voter registration card from their health insurance provider Covered California, the state-run agency that implements President Obama’s Affordable Care Act.

Good [expletive deleted]ing luck with that, Vladimir. #finland

I will not say, “I would like to see him try.”  I have no desire to see either Finns or Russians die over a mad dream. For that matter, I am not convinced that the story is[n’t] [Sorry, guys, should have made that clearer – ML] nonsense: if we’re talking about countries that Vladimir Putin would want to reconquer for the Russian empire, Poland would be at the top of that list (and was not even mentioned in the article).  But if this were to happen, it would not go well for Russia:

One of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s closest ex-advisers has claimed that the ex-KGB agent ultimately wants to reclaim Finland for Russia.

Andrej Illiaronov, Putin’s economic adviser between 2000 and 2005 and now senior member of the Cato Institute think tank, said that “parts of Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus, the Baltic States and Finland are states where Putin claims to have ownership.”

Also from the Wish List: Bruce Springsteen & the E-Street Band Live: 1975-85 (3CD).

This was one of the first compilations I ever had as an adult: I listened to one tape so many times that  it broke.  I am pleased as punch that one of my most excellent readers got it for me for my birthday; truly, my colleagues should be most envious of my good fortune.

As to the pledge drive generally… a last minute contribution will allow me to buy the upgraded iPod after all; I should probably commemorate that by giving the old one to charity. I’m sure that somebody out there could get some use out of it.

[UPDATE]: I forgot to mention: I’m pretty sure that I was at one of the concerts that this album recorded. I got to go because my sister used me as a warm body to stand in line to get more tickets, and then my parents explained to her afterward that this meant that I could go.

…Man, this entire post is an exercise in things-of-the-past.

Welp. Guess I’m downloading Assassin’s Creed III, then.

I’ve had Assassin’s Creed III in my Steam library for over a year, but never downloaded it. Seeing as I think that we’re done with Assassin’s Creed IV DLC by this point, though…

PS: I got some interesting stuff in here, though.  Saints Row: The Third, frex. Was that any good?

Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke links Mary Burke (D CAND, WI-GOV) to Dred Scott.

Now there’s something that you don’t see every day: “Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke said Democratic candidate for governor Mary Burke’s position on school choice is “reminiscent of the US Supreme Court’s Dred Scott decision.”” Spoken like a man who got 74% of the vote in his last election, and who is perhaps blithely unconcerned that he could be open to charges of racism:
