CD Projekt Red knows how to push my buttons.

Here. Listen.

They know exactly what my reaction to that is going to be. I mean, I absolutely understand that we’re not going to hear a blessed word about CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 video game today, or this week, or even probably this month. But that doesn’t matter. All that matters is the beep. The beep that says Pay attention.

And so I am.

PS: Note that this is the fifth anniversary of the original trailer.

I’m having some conceptual problems with Assassin’s Creed: Origins.

I picked up the game with Christmas money — all praise to the Amazon Gift Card, which allows my relatives to no longer play that fun What the Hell does Moe actually like, anyway? game — and I’m having some trouble getting ‘into’ Assassin’s Creed: Origins. It’s not the gameplay or even the basic plot; I’m cool with both.  My problem here is that I’m not really checked out yet as to the larger point of it all. I know, yes, this is the start of the Assassins and everything. But right now I’m kind of just murder-hoboing, with no real justification for it.

Which is how Black Flag started, sure.  But I was a PIRATE in Black Flag. I had a pirate ship and a pirate crew and whenever I was bored I’d go take a prize or two. And then listen to the crew sing. So… not the same thing, really?

Steam has a terrifying Star Wars sale going on…

…terrifying because it’s so, so good.  The Force Unleashed stuff in particular is calling to me.  It says, just one game, Moe.  You’ve always wanted to play it.  What harm could it possibly do?

:pause:

This would be a lot easier to justify if I didn’t need to sleep.

PS: The X-Wing and TIE Fighter games were ZOMG good.  So, so good.  Good enough that I almost want to buy a joystick, or hook up the XBox attachment… oh, crap, I have one of those.

Sorry: been chasing the Secret World Legends Pinata all day.

You know how it is: you schedule your entire day around logging into Secret World Legends every hour to kill the Goddess of Death, and next thing you know, it’s 11 PM and you’re wondering where the time went.  Especially since there’s a new update to Conan Exiles today, too, which means more things to dress up your dolls clothe your thralls with and add to your dollhouse castle.  Soon I shall have a wall around my entire encampment, and then my archers will kill those mammoths for me, safe in my fortress of Skyrimcraft… Continue reading Sorry: been chasing the Secret World Legends Pinata all day.

Secret World Legends’ Christmas Event starts Tuesday.

A two-weeker, if I remember correctly. New missions, maybe a new boss, new caches, and – this is the important one – unlike the Halloween event all of your characters can get the daily rewards.  Which means that your alternates might be able to get that riding moose, after all (I rather badly want a riding moose). If Halloween is any indication, we’re not going to see a five-man dungeon; they’re just going to convert the existing dungeons for solo play.  Which is a crying shame, because I remember the old dungeon being a tricky exercise that was a lot of fun to work out. But what can you do? Besides, I’m happy to have my game and my cabal and my Christmas event back…

Some folks did a combat overhaul of Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The Witcher 3 Enhanced Edition mod looks pretty comprehensive.  Basically, they yanked out leveling and Geralt’s ability to be better at combat than you are.  Now you have to actually pay attention to where the sword goes and how far away your target is and a bunch of other stuff. It’s simultaneously fascinating…

…and something I refuse to load.  I’m in my late forties.  I appreciate that Geralt is better in combat than me.  He ought to be, after all.  But, of course, your mileage may vary.

Secret World Legends makes a big adjustment to play.

A very significant one, in fact.

In the mail: my Illuminati Secret World Legends pin!

This is probably not an official Secret World Legends pin from Origami Soldier, but since I saw this on a devstream with the developers going ZOMG this is so cool get ’em before they’re gone I figure that it was OK. Or it was the Twitter account. Anyway,  it’s a really pretty Lumie pin. I just need to figure out what I’m going to wear it on.

The Cuphead Honest Game Trailer.

I dunno whether Screen Junkies itself is going to survive creator Andy Signore’s firing for alleged sexual harassment and assault, but Cuphead got an Honest Game Trailer from Smosh Games.  The use of a different voice-over person in that one was apparently just a temporary aesthetic choice, at least according to EpicVoiceGuy himself. So there’s that.

By the way, this was a very useful trailer. I was actually contemplating whether I want to play Cuphead.  I’m getting the impression that the answer to that would be Not if I value the good opinion of everyone close to me…
