I actually bought a physical copy of HUNTING FOUR HORSEMEN, because it’s Jim Geraghty and he’s a buddy. It’s a CIA black ops thriller in a post-coronavirus universe, with the added benefit of not being 750 pages. I loved Tom Clancy’s work, but he really needed more editors willing and able to tell him Cut it down another 20%.

In fairness, Hunt for Red October and Red Storm Rising were tight.
And after them, would any publisher want to delay a guaranteed best seller for aesthetic purposes?
(Not to mention that the goat gaggers let them increase the price. You were demonstrably getting more, so no consumer rebellion about the higher price. Of course, the prices charged for mid-list just happened to creep up to the higher price point. But it took a bit.)
