You know how you can walk into something, then have a lot of crap suddenly come down and suddenly people are screaming at each other, and you don’t know why? And then a big dude comes up to you, and lets you know that now is not a good time? And then politely suggests that you stand not on the order of your coming, but go at once?
Yeah, that’s humanity in ‘Let Us Know When You’re Done.’ Some doors you close again right away.
This makes my think of Chris Nutall’s Cast Adrift series, which I really like, but the situation in your story would be much preferable.
