Took ’em long enough.
Evidence from photos, videos, social-media posts and interviews suggest that a group—the New York chapter of the Trayvon Martin Organizing Committee, or TMOC—might have been involved. There is no definitive proof that TMOC led the call for dead cops, but there is a web of circumstantial ties with the group at its center. …The bedrock of TMOC’s politics, judged by their social-media output, is hatred for police and endorsement of violence against them. The group seems to blend “black bloc” anarchist street violence with social-media campaigns.
Ah, yes, the blackshirts. I would applaud the Daily Beast’s diligence in tracking down precisely which splinter group of the Violent Activist Left was responsible for helping to get two cops killed, but: what took the Daily Beast so long?
- It was obvious even before the Thanksgiving protest-rioting that the ‘black bloc’ was going to take over the police protests.
- It was obvious during the post-Thanksgiving store assaults in San Francisco that the ‘black bloc’ was involved.
- It was obvious here and here that the ‘black bloc’s’ tactics of infrastructure hits and deliberate attacks on American/democratic/capitalistic/normal iconography were insinuating themselves through the protests.
- It was obvious what was going on when the ‘black bloc’s’ old friend – the Molotov Cocktail – started showing up at protests.
- And it certainly has been obvious for years that the Left’s protests have been invariably infected by the ‘black bloc’ at every turn, to the point where the Left no longer knows what actual populists even look like.
Admittedly, one of the reasons why it took the Daily Beast so long is because the writers at the Daily Beast desperately need to pretend that this infection, this insinuation, this perversion is unique, a one-off, a dolorous miracle. But it wasn’t. Every single time the Left goes on the march in this country, the black bloc – or as I call them, the blackshirts – move in. They move in, and then they take over, and then the marches go down dark paths. The problem here? …Blackshirts hate cops. And this time the blackshirts’ charming habit of throwing sparks onto tinder led to a blaze that murdered two police officers.
So far.
In other words: as I’ve said in other contexts… the murder of two cops was not a function of a failure of the system. It is a function of the system. And it was the more mainstream Left’s job to keep these… people… under control. But apparently nobody on the Left actually knows how to do something like that.

PS: One last note: the Daily Beast called these people ‘monsters:’ not that I necessarily disagree (the blackshirts are humans, but humans can be monsters), but I was surprised that a house organ for the Left would use that language. And then I realized: they did that because the Left needs to turn the ‘black bloc’ into the Other. Not that it’ll work, of course, but what choice do they have?
There’s a difference between the Blackshirts and the Activist Left? Since when?
“No Justice, No Peace” certainly sounds like a threat.
Which is almost certainly the point.
.
When your mob publicly chants about wanting dead cops, and one of your fellow-travelers takes that as an invitation to pull the trigger, you’ve got problems.
And when the 911 dispatcher who took the report sympathizes with the murderer instead of the executed cops, you’ve got some explaining to do.
“…you’ve got problems”
.
What you’ve got is a no-longer-quite-nascent terrorist group. Not that the DOJ will stop looking at the “threat” posed conservatives to pay any attention to an active, violent terror cell.

If the cops cancel the next “protest” with machine gun fire, I’ll cry for the republic, but I won’t be able to find any sympathy for the protesters.
“And it was the more mainstream Left’s job to keep these… people… under control.”

I’m not so sure that they are out of control. I think the Left is quite satisfied with the results. The long game, which the Left has mastered and the Right hasn’t figured out, has to do with intimidating and subduing local police to cower to federal, not state, authority.
Er, it was obvious in October they were getting involved. The Treepers had documented them in the area and “organizing” since they showed up.
