Martin O’Malley: NIMBY. Marylanders would just attack those detainee kids, you understand.

At first, I was just sourly amused at this bit of hypocrisy wafting out from Martin O’Malley.  But then I kept reading.

Martin O’Malley says that deporting the children detained at the border would be sending them to “certain death” — but he also urged the White House not to send them to a facility in his own state.

Hours after the Maryland governor and prospective 2016 presidential candidate became the most prominent Democrat to criticize the White House on the issue, Domestic Policy Director Cecilia Muñoz called O’Malley to complain.

But before they hung up, O’Malley told Muñoz not to send any of the children to the facility in Westminster, Md., that the White House was looking at. It’s a conservative part of the state, he warned. The children were at risk of getting harassed, or worse, he said.

A post that will probably make immediate sense to parents reading it…

…while still being able to be accessible to non-parents:

  • Bad news: my youngest still thinks that the best way to make it clear that he desires juice is to get the three gallon jug out of the fridge, lug it up the stairs, and plop it down in front of me while saying “Juice.”
  • Good news: at least now he’s shutting the goram fridge door behind him.

That’s it.

Father of the Year award frontrunner.

This winner ‘allegedly’:

  • Stole a car
  • Stole a car with his three year old kid in tow
  • Stole a car and got chased by cops
  • Abandoned the car while leaving his kid behind
  • Called the kid’s mother to tell her to pick up the child at the crime scene
  • And… left a BB gun on the dashboard for the child to brandish and point at the cops gingerly approaching the stolen car.

Fortunately, this is not one of those stories: the child was not actually shot.  Thank Heaven for small favors: this is one of those situations where selling the child to gypsies (a favorite, if somewhat cringeworthy to modern ears, threat of my parents’ generation) could be legitimately argued as being a humanitarian intervention…

‘This is a patient’s bill of rights on steroids’

In other words: artificially boosted, likely to be impotent, and a major health risk if you’re a kid.

(Via Hot Air Headlines) The AP did not so much bury the lede as it dismembered it and hid the pieces in separate locations, so we need to do some stitching:

Obama made better coverage for children a centerpiece of his health care remake, but it turns out the letter of the law provided a less-than-complete guarantee that kids with health problems would not be shut out of coverage.

Under the new law, insurance companies still would be able to refuse new coverage to children because of a pre-existing medical problem, said Karen Lightfoot, spokeswoman for the House Energy and Commerce Committee, one of the main congressional panels that wrote the bill Obama signed into law Tuesday.

Full protection for children would not come until 2014, said Kate Cyrul, a spokeswoman for the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, another panel that authored the legislation.

Obama’s public statements have conveyed the impression that the new protections for kids were more sweeping and straightforward.

Also: Obama’s public statements have also conveyed the equally-false impression that the President has a clue about what’s actually in his signature legislation, but you can’t really expect the AP to write that out.  Although one gets the impression that the thought might have actually passed through the head of the writer.  Which would be an improvement, at least.

Anyway, you’d think that at this point the President would have the mother-wit to check the speeches that they hand to him.  He just doesn’t like to learn, does he?
