This is not an unreasonable position for a Democrat to take, of course; or, rather, it is unreasonable, but it is not particularly unexpected. But since Greg Orman is still urinating on people’s legs and telling them that it’s bipartisanship, well…

Democratic Senate candidate Greg Orman said that he would allow the president to choose whomever he “feels he needs to pick” to serve in cabinet positions.

“At the end of the day, we sort of let to need chief executives, whether they are Republicans or Democrats, pick the team that they feel like they need to pick to run various cabinet agencies,” Orman said during a Kansas Senate debate with incumbent Pat Roberts (R., Kan.) on Wednesday.

Dear Democratic party: please campaign on the UN’s call to cut economic growth.

A United Nations science panel issued a sobering wake-up call to world policymakers Sunday, warning that countries must make dramatic changes in their energy consumption, their use of technology and even their ways of life to avert the catastrophic effects of climate change.

The only options that stand a chance of heading off the worst of the harm would require cutting at least slightly into economic growth in the coming decades, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change said. Nations may even have to make ambitious attempts to remove carbon pollution from the atmosphere — not just limit how much comes out of smokestacks and tailpipes.

This ad from the American Energy Alliance against Congressman Nick Rahall is not precisely subtle:

…which does not mean that it’s incorrect. Basically: in 2013 Rahall voted for the Progressive Caucus’s budget amendment. Said amendment relied on a carbon tax; carbon taxes are bad news to West Virginia coal miners, given that you tax things when you don’t want more of it; and Nick Rahall is apparently an idiot for thinking that this wouldn’t show up in an attack ad against him. Are you politically ambitious, and a minority? The GOP pays better.

Much better.

African American staffers on Democratic federal-level campaigns are paid 70 cents on the dollar compared to their white counterparts; Hispanics are paid 68 cents on the dollar.

Women on campaigns are also paid less than men, although at a rate not too far from parity: 95 cents on the dollar. Interestingly, although the proportions of staff are more skewed towards white men on Republican campaigns, the income disparities are more pronounced on Democratic campaigns.

Ann McLane Kuster (Democrat), 2011: Libya = Middle East. Kuster, 2013: …NO IT’S NOT!

For the benefit of Democratic Rep. Ann McLane Kuster, (NH-02)…

Benghazi is the second largest city in Libya.
Libya is that somewhat large country in North Africa between Algeria and Egypt.
That particular country, desperate apologists to the contrary*, is part of what most people call ‘the Middle East,’ – including, apparently, Ann McLane Kuster. From March of 2011:

Kuster said she supports Obama’s recent action in response to unrest in the Middle East. She said she felt the military intervention in Libya is appropriate because it’s “primarily a humanitarian mission and the international community is leading, not just the U.S.”

“I think that’s the right approach,” she said. “I think we’ve got to be very careful about not ending up in our third full-scale military operation putting American lives at stake.”

Rep. Diana DeGette’s (D, CO) #obamacare denial.

So a Colorado woman (one Cathy Wagner) finds out that her health care plan, like that of 250,000 other Coloradans, got cancelled (H/T: @allahpundit). Ms. Wagner’s new plan (healthy couple in late middle age, apparently no kids) went up 35% (to twelve grand a year) and a higher deductible. This news is hardly surprising to anybody who regularly reads this site, but for the benefit of new visitors: this is not a bug in the system. This is the system. And Ms. Wagner’s purpose in this system is to be turned upside down and shaken vigorously, in the hopes that large sums of money fall out of her pockets. Or even moderate amounts of money. Hey, every little bit helps.

Now marvel at the sheer empathy radiating off of 9-term Democrat Diana DeGette, not to mention the deep understanding of how her party’s signature policy of Obamacare has negatively affected Ms. Wagner, and millions of people just like her: Continue reading Rep. Why it’s a mug’s game for a minority to run as a Democrat.

I personally think that Sean Higgens is taking too seriously Josh Marshall’s pandering to his own side over minorities in the GOP – short version: Marshall’s assertion of increased minorities in GOP = white people fleeing GOP is mostly aimed at making white Democrats feel better at their own not-very-closeted racism* – but I’d like to note this:

[A]s any Republican fundraising consultant will tell you, there’s no better way to make Republican donors open their wallets than to send out a mailer with a black conservative asking for money. The Republican Party could use a lot more credible black and Hispanic primary candidates, perhaps. But when given the opportunity, Republican primary voters in extremely white districts do nominate conservative Black and Hispanic candidates for office.

#rsrh Racist Democrat Steve Holland tries to memory-hole ‘Gulf of Mexico.’

No, really. This guy wants to rename it “The Gulf of America.” I can’re really improve on this characterization by blog of new orleans (and Fox should have linked):

Riding upon a chariot of Hummers driven by bald eagles, Mississippi Rep. Steve Holland filed a guns blazing cowboy steak of a bill, proudly waving our nation’s red, white and God-fearing blue to protect our American coastal waters.

Seriously, this is an incredibly dunderheaded idea. Even if Holland is trying to go with the “It’s a joke!” pseudo-defense now.

K Street is adapting perfectly well to a Democratic-controlled government.

“There is no question that it has been our most productive period since the election since we have been in practice,” said Rich Gold, head of the public policy group for Holland & Knight.

They’re apparently loving it, in fact.

K Street rebounds as many firms sign clients at fast pace

K Street’s economy appears to be on the rebound as a number of firms are reporting a sharp increase in new clients, a trend lobbyists attributed to the new president’s far-reaching agenda.

The combination of a deepening recession and the distraction of the 2008 campaign, which kept Congress out of session for much of the latter half of last year, were blamed for pushing lobbying revenues down in 2008.

Since Nov. 4, however, several top firms have signed new clients at a pace exceeding the growth periods that followed previous election cycles. Lobbyists credited the recently passed stimulus package and anticipated policy fights touching on the energy, healthcare and financial-services sectors for the uptick.
