Well, at least Alex Sink (D CAND, Florida-13) wasn’t talking about “hewers of wood…”

…or “bearers of water:”

Florida Democratic congressional candidate Alex Sink said immigration reform was important at a Tuesday debate because, without it, it would be difficult for employers to find people to clean hotel rooms and do landscaping.

“Immigration reform is important in our country,” she said. “We have a lot of employers over on the beaches that rely upon workers and especially in this high-growth environment, where are you going to get people to work to clean our hotel rooms or do our landscaping? We don’t need to put those employers in a position of hiring undocumented and illegal workers.”

Why is @AlexSinkFlorida so starkly terrified of @chucktodd? #fl13

Like Hot Air, I am just a touch bemused at reports that Alex Sink (Democratic candidate for Florida’s 13th district special election) is apparently adamant that she absolutely cannot be at a debate that has NBC’s Chuck Todd moderating it:

When it came to laying down the ground rules for an upcoming debate in the closely watched Florida congressional special election, Democrat Alex Sink — who seems allergic to the national attention her race is getting — had big demands: No NBC. And no Chuck Todd.

Rep. Trey Radel (R, Florida-19) to resign, and not before time.

That was the freshman caught with cocaine:

Florida Rep. Trey Radel, a first-term Republican congressman who was convicted on cocaine possession charges, will resign from Congress on Monday.

Radel’s future in Congress had been in question following his guilty plea to misdemeanor cocaine possession after being arrested in Washington, D.C. in November, and a subsequent leave of absence from his official duties to attend rehab.

…the seat is not particularly in play.  Anymore. Mind you, if this was 2006 or 2008 I might be privately writing it off; cocaine possession may not be a sex scandal, but it’s not nothing, either.  But FL-19 is R+11 and Democratic recruitment this cycle is nothing to write home about. People should keep an eye on it, but they shouldn’t freak out.

This half-despairing statement from a Florida physician will break your heart. #obamacare

LIBRE has put out this ad out against Joe Garcia in Florida. You see, Rep. Garcia – when he’s not hiring chiefs of staff who later get convicted for election fraud – has been recently trying to quietly distance himself from Obamacare.  Presumably this has been because Obamacare has been generally awful… and awful and arrogantly dismissive of Latino voters. So LIBRE has set up The Accountability Project:

“This law does not put patients first,” the physician, Grazie Pozo Christie, says in the ad. “My patients ask if I will continue to provide care for them, and it pains me to say, ‘I don’t have an answer.’”

But, Charlie Crist: you WERE chickensh*t for avoiding Bush in 2006. [profanity warning]

This is a simple truth, even if Karl Rove* said it.

The Tampa Bay Times got an early copy and apparently it contains some juicy stuff, including an anecdote about Karl Rove calling the then GOP gubernatorial candidate “chickenshit” for skipping a 2006 rally for George W. Bush.

We’re guessing Charlie’s hoping “Chickenshit Crist” doesn’t catch on as a nickname.

Given that “Chickenshit Charlie” would roll off of the tongue better? Maybe, maybe not.

Bill Young’s widow tells Charlie Crist to stay the hell away from the funeral.

OK, she doesn’t swear at Charlie Crist.  Mrs. Young is being ladylike about it.

Charlie:

This e-mail is to officially advise you that your presence at my husband’s memorial services will be unacceptable. I have watched over the years, as Bill had, your transparent attempts to manipulate the political arena. I don’t want my husband’s memorial service to be another opportunity for that and I will not tolerate anyone turning this into a platform for political gain.
Please honor my families request.

Sincerely,
Beverly Young
Widow of Congressman Bill Young

Rep. Joe Garcia’s (D, Florida) former chief of staff is going to jail.

But there’s no such thing as election fraud in this country:

Congressman Joe Garcia’s former chief of staff will head to jail for orchestrating a fraudulent, online absentee-ballot request plot during last year’s elections.

Joe Garcia (D, Florida 26) SWEARS that that $25 grand payout wasn’t hush money.

Oh, dear.  This looks very awkward:

What’s worse than firing your top political adviser and chief of staff amid a state elections-fraud investigation? Having to pay him $25,000 in invoices that appear once the FBI opens up a separate inquiry.

Welcome to Congressman Joe Garcia’s world. Continue reading Joe Garcia (D, Florida 26) SWEARS that that $25 grand payout wasn’t hush money.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch… Illinois, Florida lack trained #obamacare guides.

But surely this won’t be a problem:

Illinois’s health-insurance marketplace said that it had only certified 100 of the planned 1,200 navigators by this past Saturday, but hoped to have “hundreds more” ready by Tuesday. Most Illinois navigators have completed their state training and background checks, but the online system that they use to complete the required federal training only recently became available, a situation which is, according to spokeswoman Kelly Sullivan, “not unique to Illinois.”

In Florida, as of last Wednesday, only 11 of roughly 150 navigators had received their state-level licenses to assist people in signing up for that state’s exchange, and only 57 had even applied for it. According to coordinators for the program, at the University of South Florida and the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, the delay is due to the federal online training system’s being crash-prone.

…Computer problems, you say? – Or, rather, the federal government failed to say.  Until now.

ACLU reverses course on further #Zimmerman prosecution: will @BarackObama… AGAIN?

It’s all about the hypocrisy, baby.

Jeralyn Merritt of Talk Left has always had a stubbornly sensible streak about her when it comes to the absurdities of her side’s legal-themed shenanigans, and sometimes it gets loose.  Case in point: her addressing of basic reality on the Martin-Zimmerman case, and exactly why the ACLU was smart to reverse course and get out of any further race-baiting in the form of trying for federally-spawned hate crimes charges.

Thousands may turn out to march, but millions will close their ears because of what they see as the unfair connection to George Zimmerman, a man with no history of racial animus, who a jury determined was not guilty of any crime at a trial at which no one alleged he acted out of racial animosity, and the connection to Trayvon Martin, whom they do not view as an innocent, but as someone who committed an unprovoked physical assault and unfortunately lost his life because the person he assaulted lawfully defended himself.

Others who will be turned off: Those who know that stand your ground laws had nothing to do with Zimmerman being found not guilty. He would have been found to have acted in self defense with or without the duty to retreat language, because the testimony and evidence at trial showed he had no place to retreat to once attacked by Martin.
