I thought I’d give OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL a whirl, seeing as it’s a Sam Raimi flick that I actually haven’t seen. Not sure why, really. Probably because it was called OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL.

Movie of the Friday Night: SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO (Live-action).
And the movie is not wasting too much time on explaining characters, backstory, or other fripperies. SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO takes the position that if you are watching this movie, you know precisely who all of these people are, what they mean to each other, and what the Hell was going on. And they are, in point of fact, correct. It took me no more than three minutes to get back in the zone.
I can’t watch it all in one go tonight, because I got stuff to do. But I’m already one-third done and I just turned it on to make sure everything was working properly.
TV Show of the Week: Star Trek: The Animated Series.
I’m mostly trying to talk myself out of buying Star Trek: The Animated Series because I know I won’t actually watch it unless it’s on a streaming service. The problem there is that I’m also talking myself out of getting Paramount+ because I have far too many streaming services already. It’s a bit of a problem all around.
Still: the price is nice, right? To the wish list it goes!
Movie of the week: Firefox.
That’s the ‘Just fly the damn plane’ Firefox, of course. I’m not sure if I actually want to watch it again, though. You know how it is: the movies that were important when you were young don’t always hold up.
Plus, it turned out that Soviet materials science was horrible. Big shocker, there…
Movie of the Week: GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE.
I enjoyed GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE: I have pre-ordered it; and I think that there’s a decent sequel for it in there, too. I do understand why the critics weren’t highly thrilled about it, mind you. It’s a recreation of the original movie, coupled with the cinematic equivalent of literally everybody involved in the project breaking down after the fifth shot of whiskey and sobbing about why did you have to die, Harold? It’s not fair! It was too soon!
…I can see why that might grate on some critics, and I’m not judging them for having that reaction. They get to like what they like. But then, so do I.

Movie of the Week: RED.
I started watching RED just for one particular scene, and now we’re in for the long haul. I mean, every time I remind myself that I have stuff to do tonight another A-List actor shows up and shoots somebody. What else am I gonna do?
Movie of the Week: TREMORS.
Mostly because of this video, and a general agreement that the only people who hate TREMORS are Communists:

Movie of the Week: MY COUSIN VINNY.
Added because MY COUSIN VINNY is a great movie generally, and an excellent movie whenever Marissa Tomei was on the screen. Seldom has an actress deserved her Oscar more. I also am given to understand that lawyers in general love this movie for the same reason philosophers love GROUNDHOG DAY, or linguists ARRIVAL: to wit, it ‘gets’ their chosen profession. I know everybody reading this has probably already seen MCV, but go ahead and watch it again. It’s fun.
Movie of the Week: The #SnyderCut JUSTICE LEAGUE.
Yup, they finally released the Snyder Cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE on DVD. Best Buy also apparently has a steelbook, but those are more or less wasted on me. Besides, they ran out. I’m fine with the Blu-Ray.
