#rsrh Jimmy Webb (D, VA) probably isn’t running.

This is frankly a guess, but if you’re a first-term Senator from a state that is kind of tired of the shenanigans that your party has been up to lately, and if you have raised only $12K in the last quarter, you are doubly in trouble.  And if you’re still going around in 2011 telling people that you haven’t made a decision yet whether you’ll be running in 2012: hey, guess what?  You’ve probably made a decision and just don’t want to admit it.

Anyway, a real shame about that Webb fellow.  Switched parties, broke bread with the people who spit on his troops when they came back from Vietnam, and had to vote against every conservative principle he might have had… and for what?  The title of ‘Senator’ and the chance to spite George W Bush.  Which – hold on, let me use my Kindle search function…

…yup, as I suspected: said spiting was something Webb completely failed to do.

Tragic.  Simply tragic.

Jim Moran ranks military service below PTA membership.

Here’s a really good rule of thumb: when you’ve done something not only dumb, but actually vile – in this case, if you’ve declared that wearing your country’s uniform for twenty-four years is not ‘public service*’ – don’t compound the error later by trying to explain it away.  Jim Moran (D, VA-08) apparently does not understand this rule of thumb, which is why he is now trying to try to walk back from the aforementioned vile thing that he said about Patrick Murray:

But Moran says he was specifically citing local service aimed at Virginian communities, which Murray lacks, he says.

“Whether it be a civic association or a (parent-teacher association) or a non-profit charitable group, nothing,” Moran says.

You know, nobody’s ever been able to tell me what Moran brings to the table for VA-08 besides pork and Jew-bashing. Neither is likely to be an indulgence permitted to Democratic legislators in the 112th Congress, so why should Moran be re-elected, again?

Rick Boucher (D, VA-09) buys new car with campaign money.

Via… Not Larry Sabato, who cannot be happy about the fact that his fully-justified anger at seeing a 14 term Democratic Congressman use campaign finance money to buy himself a nice, new car is now showing up as yet another reason why to vote for Rick Boucher’s opponent Morgan Griffith, who is not using special-interest money to buy himself shiny new automobiles.  I know this because I just called to check; and the sound of their laughter at the very thought…

PS: For extra giggles, Boucher sabotaged his own administration’s fiscal policies by buying a Ford.  What, Government Motors wasn’t good enough for the Democrat?  Didn’t the government buy that company for our own good?

PPS: Morgan is also campaigning on the idea of cutting Congress’s pay by 10%.

In the process of trying to convince people that Tom Perriello might possibly have a chance at keeping his seat in Virginia’s Fifth District (given Perriello’s bad habit of voting as directed by his party’s liberal leadership) against Robert Hurt, the Washington Post tried to trot out this particular line of nonse… ah, conventional wisdom:

Though polls suggest that Republicans are by far the more energized party this year, the Democrats argue that — unlike the last time they lost the House, in 1994 — they aren’t being caught off-guard.

Meet Patrick Murray (R CAND, VA-08)

Col. Murray is running against the infamous Jim Moran in VA-08, and he took a moment to speak with us today. He’s won his primary, so he’s the official Republican candidate in this district. He also didn’t try to get in my face once during the interview when I asked him a question… something that Moran hadn’t mastered as of this April.

Interesting article here in the WaPo about privatizing Virginia liquor stores – although the Washington Bob McDonnell’s Thesis should accept that they lost the election, and stop being childish by using unflattering pictures of the Governor* – but the really interesting bit was possibly the comments section of the Fark entry where I saw it first.  Ever hear that old rule-of-thumb that the more you care about a particular topic, the more conservative you are about it?  Yeah, apparently Fark readers care a hell of a lot about distilled liquor.

No, I’m not judging.  I am, in fact, somewhat heartened.  Now if we can just get them caring about entitlement spending with the same intensity…

Lots of Primaries today.

According to RCP, we’ve got primaries in California, Iowa, Maine, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Virginia.  The news has been dominated by California’s, Nevada’s, and of course South Carolina’s – but they’re all important, so if you’re a voter in that state, hie yourselves and any reliable Republican voters within reach to a polling station.  You can let the Democrats in your life sleep in, particularly in New Jersey and Virginia.

Also: KEEP YOUR VIDEO CAMERAS HANDY, PARTICULARLY IF YOU LIVE IN SOUTH CAROLINA.  Anti-reform opponents of Nikki Haley and Bill Connor may be now past the point where their shenanigans can shape public opinion in time for the actual primary election, but there’s plenty of things that you can do to illicitly affect an election.  Fortunately, sunlight is an excellent disinfectant – and, remember: as Mark Steyn notes here, Helen Thomas was taken down by a flipcam.  There’s a reason that both Instapundit and I keep harping on this…

VA AG Cuccinelli to invoke VATA over Climategate?

Elections have consequences for the other guy, too.

Could be, could be:

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli is invoking a state anti-fraud law to demand the University of Virginia turn over years worth of documents related to climate scientist Michael Mann, targeting about $500,000 in grants that funded Mann’s studies.

Cuccinelli, a Republican who is separately suing the federal government over regulation of carbon emissions, issued the school a civil subpoena late last month probing “possible violations” of the Virginia Fraud Against Taxpayers Act by the former U.Va. professor. Mann, now a professor at Penn State, is famous for creating the controversial “hockey stick” graph charting a spike in global temperatures.

This would be freshman (and steadily-more-worried) Democrat Glenn Nye’s district; Scott’s been running in this race since last year, but things are heating up enough that I thought that an interview was warranted.
