My thoughts on a Missile Command or Centiped movie: …STOP IT.

STOP IT NOW.

Some classic Atari video games are heading to the big screen as Deadline today brings word that both Missile Command and Centipede movies are in development thanks to a new partnership with Emmett / Furla / Oasis Films.

Missile Command I could maybe justi… no. No, there’s no justification for either movie. This is stupid.  Somebody should be fired and made to go work in another field over this.  And the same should happen to whoever hired that person in the first place. Time for a little shared responsibility around here.

Yeah, I know: that seems like a bit much. I dunno: maybe I’m just appalled by this?  I mean, how many arcade video game movies have to implode before we stop making them?

Gaming Supplement of the Week: GURPS Aliens: Sparrials.

Since apparently I have readers who play GURPS, let me note that the new GURPS Aliens: Sparrials has many laudable qualities. First off, it’s a good update to the classic GURPS Aliens writeup (Sparrials are an alien race suitable for thief and generally sneaky types). Second, it’s hopefully a harbinger of future updates of classic GURPS Alien races (I hold out hope for someday getting the Liook Sijun*). Third, it was written by Beth McCoy, who is an old friend of mine and a fine person to know.

So, hey, go and buy it.

*If I thought that they’d buy that writeup I’d so totally pitch it. I consider the original text’s mocking, and slightly horrified, reaction to the idea of somebody wanting to play a Liook Sijun somewhat of a… challenge.

So, is the Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines computer RPG coming back?

Mayyyybe:

The sharp-eyed folks at RPG Codex noticed something interesting yesterday: In late April, White Wolf Publishing filed for a trademark on “Vampire Bloodlines,” to cover “downloadable publications in relation to role-playing games; downloadable publications in relation to computer games; video game software; application software for mobile phones; computer game software.”

…White Wolf and all its properties were acquired last year by Paradox Interactive. Paradox Interactive published Obsidian’s 2015 fantasy RPGPillars of Eternity, and will do the same for the recently-announced Tyranny. And Obsidian—this is where it gets good—recently signed up Leonard Boyarsky, who was the project lead on Bloodlines, and is thus now back together with Tim Cain, who worked as a programmer on the game.

I finally got around to buying “The 47 Bronin.”

A webcomic* artist called Jamie Noguchi put it together: basically, he reacted to that widely-panned 47 Ronin Keanu Reeves flick by writing up the 47 Ronin as bros.  I spent a buck to buy it, because it was funny enough for me to spend money on it. Also, it’s in my best long-term interest to have people buy creative work online in general… seriously, though, it’s pretty good, in a very bro sort of way.

*Yellow Peril, which is unfortunately on hiatus.

Tweet of the Day, WOW But That’s Just What It Looks Like, Huh? edition.

I mean, really, that’s an impressively good observation. To the point where you could write a story around the concept. All Ancient Astronaut, like.
