I was not *entirely* happy with today’s roast beef.

Good sear, properly medium-rare, but still a bit tough to cut. I think that it’s because I didn’t have time to get the roast up to room temperature first. Suggestions for what to do when it’s a case of going straight from the supermarket and right to the oven?

PS: My players still ate it.

First game in over a month!

…And damned if I remember what the 7th Sea adventure was going to be about. Well, not entirely true: it’s about a couple of families in Castille and a marriage and beer. And it was a comedy, not a tragedy. Other than that… well, I hope my players kept good notes.

PS: Nah, none of them read this site and even if they did they’d just make up something that advantages their characters and I’d run with it. Like you do.

I’m calling the night so I can watch Spectral. [UPDATE]

It’s that Special Forces vs. Ghosts thing on Netflix. I am reliably told that it is dumb, but fun; so far, so good. Although DARPA doesn’t work like Spectral thinks it does, more’s the pity.

[UPDATE] If you’re running any kind of military-themed near-future science fiction game, this movie is gonna be invaluable. It’s basically an adventure module put up on the screen. I enjoyed it a lot, for what it was; and no, it was not scientifically plausible.

In the Mail: Vegas Knights.

I forget who recommended Vegas Knights to me: it’s supposed to be what happens when magic collides with Las Vegas. I look forward to reading it, assuming that the six other books floating around half-read stop looking at me reproachfully. And that’s not even counting the stuff on my phone.

Sorry. I am feeling so amazingly lazy today. Maybe because I have at least two deadlines scheduled for this weekend? Or because it’s just cold out.

Moana was good! Also, The Word of Mouse has been spoken on ‘Disney Princesses.’

Disney has decided to end the discussion, once and for all.  If your star is a girl in a dress that is carting around an animal sidekick, she is a princess.  I am pretty much quoting from Moana, here. They really did spell it out like that; I guess that the Mouse is tired of all of these shenanigans getting in the way of them moving merch.

As for the movie: excellent Golden Age science fiction space opera, although it’s a shame that they couldn’t sneak in ray-guns somehow. The soundtrack is outstanding, although the song-songs must bow to the background music.  Except for the David Bowie/Freddy Mercury/Prince tribute song in the middle – and I am neither lying about that, nor disapproving. No blood, nobody dies, kind of scary bits but nothing kids can’t handle, they’re gonna cry their eyes out during the film, so when you take the kids bring tissues.

I think that’s it.
