20th Century Disney to remake AND THEN THERE WERE NONE.

Cool. But: a “fresh take?”

Seberg screenwriters and husband-and-wife writing partners Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel have been set by 20th Century Studios to adapt the Agatha Christie classic And Then There Were None. Disney will keep the film in its pre-World War II period in which Christie wrote the novel, but with a fresh take.

Season 2 of THE MANDALORIAN dropping in October 2020.

Nobody reading this will probably be all that surprised, of course. Disney was about as likely to not renew THE MANDALORIAN as they would be to suddenly declare everything in their catalog before 2000 AD to be public domain. But, you know, it’s nice to have a date. Certainly the people in charge of making sure that there are BABY YODAS FOR CHRISTMAS THIS TIME, BOB* will be thrilled for the heads-up.

The final Live-Action MULAN trailer.

The live-action MULAN lies on the knife-edge with me. The appeal of the character to me is not if she can fight as a man does; it is that Mulan is smart. She’s easily the smartest Disney princess, with an instinctive tactical awareness of her surroundings and a commendable ability to effectively improvise under difficult conditions.

I won’t get all of that, because I don’t own Disney. Whether I get a version that I’ll like remains to be seen. They’re leaving a lot of stuff out of these trailers, I know that much.

NEW MUTANTS is back, and …unspoiled.

NEW MUTANTS is coming out in April of this year, after all. Some day I want to hear what happened with this movie. I get the impression that stuff went down:

The development of this film has been on a long journey and while it was still at Fox, there were plans for some heavy reshoots and the release of the film kept getting delayed. As far as I know, those reshoots never happened and once the film ended up at Disney we were waiting to see if any of the planned reshoots would happen under their watch. Well, it looks like Disney won’t be doing any reshoots.

Director Josh Boone recently confirmed in a conversation on Twitter that this movie will be the original version of the film that he always intended on making. Boone was asked if this would be the OG version of the movie that he shot. The director responded with, “I wouldn’t be promoting it here if it wasn’t.”

I must say: the Mouse has a much lighter hand than I expected. At least in some cases. I’m still astounded that they let ROGUE ONE end… appropriately. Go figure, huh?

WANDAVISION, PHINEAS AND FERB Disney+ news.

ComingSoon noticed from the Disney+ video below that WANDAVISION is being bumped up a year, which is nice — but that’s not the big thing for me. Nooooo, the big thing?

THERE’S GOING TO BE A NEW PHINEAS AND FERB MOVIE. This is news to me. Awesome news.

Marvel TV taken over by Marvel Studios.

It was… inevitable.

Marvel Television has a new home.

The TV arm of Marvel Entertainment is being folded into the Marvel Studios group. Current development — Hulu’s slate of animated comedies and live-action drama Helstrom — will remain on course. However, no further development will come from the unit overseen by Jeph Loeb. The exec, who launched Marvel into live-action scripted TV originals as head of Marvel Television, will remain on board during the transition. It is unclear when Loeb’s last day will be. His departure from Marvel has been expected since late October.

Robert Downey’s gonna do some animated voice work for WHAT IF…?

Well, sure.

In a recent interview with BuzzfeedThor: Ragnarok star Jeff Goldblum has confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. will be returning to the MCU in Disney+’s upcoming animated TV series What If…?, reprising his iconic role by lending his voice to the the animated version of Tony Stark/Iron Man. Goldblum revealed that his character Grandmaster will be featured in the same episode as Iron Man and Taika Waitti’s Korg.

Voice work’s a lot easier than voice and camera work, and Robert Downey can have a damned cheeseburger while he’s doing it, too. Easy money, folks. Easy money, the fans will love it, and he won’t have to do any close-ups of his head. If there’s a downside, it’s not immediately obvious.
