The Capitol Police killed the hopes and dreams of thousands of D.C.-area children (and at least a few dozen Hill staffers) Wednesday night when it reaffirmed a city ban on sledding on the Capitol grounds.
Merrymaking insurgents struck a major victory in the War On Fun Thursday, sledding to their hearts’ content on the Capitol Hill West Lawn and forcing the police into a retreat.
Choice of phrase deliberate: one of the most entertaining things about today’s state of activism is that the Professional Left is just now starting to realize that they have somehow become the agents of reaction without ever quite noticing how it happened. Lila Rose, on the other hand? Her pro-life organization Live Action is a classic guerrilla theater operation designed to target the weaknesses of a frankly sclerotic tool of the Establishment… in this case, Planned Parenthood. It’s not quite the same as the Sixties groups, though: the Right has never been all that interested in getting our opponents to admit that we were right and they were wrong. Winning is sufficient validation, thanks.
And this is where I think that the above Christian Science Monitor article featuring Lila missed the fundamental point. In my opinion, the CSM author approached Live Action’s program in terms of an attempt to sway public opinion; which is after all how the Activist Left always does it. But the reason that the Left always does it that way is because the Activist Left always has to convince a majority of the American public that their ideas are correct. The Right doesn’t have that problem in this country. To use this specific example: Live Action doesn’t have to start by convincing people that abortion is disgusting, because people already find abortion personally disgusting. All Live Action has to do is show that the horrid things said about abortion providers and abortion advocates are actually true. Continue reading Lila Rose fights the Man.
I have to take issue with the title of Richard Fernandez’s article on the coming, temporary rise of anarchism within the Left (“The Crusade of Innocents“): there’s nothing particularly innocent about the anti-globo anarchist blackshirt Left. Then again, there’s nothing particularly ‘anarchistic’ about those fools, either: if you want proper anarchism (not to mention a more moral one) go look up the more… committed… anarcho-capitalist libertarians, who at least have the saving grace of not routinely going out and throwing Molotov cocktails at the police. Quick background: Cedra Crenshaw (website here) is a conservative Tea Party activist – and, not incidentally, one that NAACP President Ben Jealous would happily call a ‘race traitor,’ if it weren’t for the minor fact that not even the media would ignore that kind of hypocrisy – who is trying to stay on the ballot for Illinois state senator. Emphasis on ‘trying:’ she’s fighting having her candidacy tossed for reasons that Eric Holder would be firing up a civil-rights investigation… if it weren’t for that fact that Holder undoubtedly considers her a race traitor, too.
Hey. It’s not my fault that the Democratic party refuses to do anything about its racist elements. Besides give them powers of trust and authority, that is.
Moving along, the Tea Parties aren’t precisely willing to accept the Democratic Party’s race-based shenanigans, and they’re more than happy to speak truth to power, afflict the comfortable, and engage in all those other behaviors that have been sanctified by a half-century of Lefty usage:
