The THE BOYS trailer.

I’m just in more or less ‘watch trailers’ mode today.

This one I look forward to watching, but only late at night when the kids are asleep, with their doors closed. I’m also mildly (drifting to morbidly) curious as to whether THE BOYS series is planning to bring in more than just the viscera so prominent in the comic run. This latest trailer suggests that they will follow the general arc of the series, so we’ll see.

Again. Strictly at night. When the kids are in REM sleep.

The BATMAN RETURNS Honest Trailer.

In a lot of ways, Batman Returns is more of a Tim Burton film than Batman itself was. And, as Honest Trailers kind of noted: this one was more of a Burton film than a Batman one. Mind you, I liked the first two just fine, but I think that the director and scriptwriters were more interested in Bruce Wayne than in Batman, and more interested in the various villains than in either facet of the hero.

Which is actually all right. Burton got excellent work out of Nicholson, Pfeiffer, De Vito, and Walken, and that’s nothing to sneeze at. I mean, look at what happened to the franchise with the next two movies. Or don’t, or at least don’t too closely; SAN loss might result.

Hrm. Zack Snyder doing zombie heist flick “Army of the Dead.”

Army of the Dead is described as taking place during “a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, during which a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.” Assuming one takes seriously the premise*, this doesn’t sound like a bad movie concept. I’m curious as to how Snyder’s going to do it.

Out on Netflix, eventually.

Moe Lane

*I don’t mean the premise of zombies, generally, although certainly other people might be forgiven for wanting the era of zombie movies to be over. I speak of the premise that people are willing to handle or buy valuables stolen from a zombie outbreak zone. Or that ‘stealing’ even means anything, anymore. Most zombie movies assume the end of global civilization, if only because otherwise the poor shambling things would get mowed down en masse.

Some interesting MCU Phase 4 stuff to unpack.

And before anybody says anything: look, folks, they’ve been setting it up for a bunch of movies now that people besides Thor can wield Mjolnir. As I understand the comics, if they follow them then Jane Foster will eventually become a Valkyrie or something anyway. At any rate, they haven’t even started filming Thor: Love and Thunder; none of this is gonna be written in stone.

Movie(s) of the Week: Captain Marvel.

So, we were at the Target today, and I saw the movie starring Captain Marvel, and then my wife saw the Captain Marvel movie. I wanted to see the movie starring Captain Marvel again and she wanted to see the Captain Marvel movie, so we ended up getting both the movie starring Captain Marvel and the Captain Marvel movie. Which was fine, because I don’t mind seeing the Captain Marvel movie again and she had sort of meant to see the movie starring Captain Marvel anyway.

Plus, there was a nice bonus at the checkout line. It turned out that the Captain Marvel movie was on sale. Shazam!
