My only exoteric* comment about the Oscars.

And it’s one that many other people have made.  To with, that Guillermo Del Toro’s Best Director Oscar gives him some serious Hollywood juice right now.  Possibly even enough juice to let him make the picture every Lovecraft fan in the world wants him to make: a big-screen adaptation of At the Mountains of Madness.  As I said on Twitter the other day… I don’t know what I would do to get a Del Toro Mountains of Madness. I don’t know if I want to know what I’d do to get a Del Toro Mountains of Madness. But I’d watch the hell out of that movie, if he made it.

Discworld TV series coming to BBC.

It’s probably going to be based on the Vimes novels: “Terry Pratchett fans may want to stay close to a television screen over the next couple of years: his comedy fantasy book series Discworld has become his latest work to be snapped up for a small screen adaptation. BBC Studios is developing a six-part series based on the long-running epic novel series.” At least, the working title is “The Watch” and that’s absolutely a tell, there.  For those who don’t know — Continue reading Discworld TV series coming to BBC.

Gemma Chan cast as Kree villain in Captain Marvel movie.

The casting on the Captain Marvel flick looks pretty good: “[Gemma Chan] joins a cast that includes Brie Larson as the title hero along with Samuel L. Jackson as a younger (and two-eyed) Nick Fury, with DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It), Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One, Ready Player One), and Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes). The film will be a “period piece” for Marvel Studios and take place in the early 1990s with the Skrulls as the primary villains.” …they got Jude Law? Ah, he’s going to be the male lead (Mar-vell) and Mendelsohn is going to be the male villain.  That sounds promising, not least because Jude Law is a little bit crazy. Not bad crazy, interesting crazy: Continue reading Gemma Chan cast as Kree villain in Captain Marvel movie.

Dungeons & Dragons movie on the menu.

Looks like they’re trying to make some magic, here: “Chris McKay, who recently directed “The Lego Batman Movie” pic for Warner Bros., is in negotiations to direct “Dungeons & Dragons” for Paramount Pictures. Michael Gillio will be penning the script. Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis are producing.” Hasbro has apparently realized that since Marvel is currently making obscene amounts of money via developing their backlist, then maybe so can Hasbro.  Their new film unit — Allspark Pictures* — plans to reboot Transformers (via a Bumblebee film not directed by Michael Bay), GI Joe, Dungeons & Dragons, do a Micronauts movie (not something I grew up watching), and some other flick. Not as bad as you might think: Babylon 5 is ‘only’ 25.
