I am strongly tempted to go ballistic now, but I will give the cops a chance to examine the evidence here first. One major argument against this being what it looks like is that assassinating dissidents on American soil is something that the KGB was hesitant to do during the height of the Cold War; if the Iranians think that they can get away with something similiar then they are going to get an unpleasant surprise. Yes, even under Obama: it’s the weak ones that you have to worry about when it comes to this sort of thing. They’re peculiarly vulnerable to disproportionate – or at least very explosive – responses.

But it may have just been a coincidence.

Occupy DC throws smoke bomb at White House… AND WAS NOT MADE TO RETREAT?

Just for calibration… back in April of 2009 I attended the DC Tax Day Tea Party; and one of the more interesting moments of that day was when a box was found to have been thrown over the White House fence, causing the US Secret Service to pretty much push everybody out of Lafayette Park. Never knew who threw the box (obviously, nothing in it), could have been an overenthusiastic protester, could have been a Lefty troublemaker, but hey, rules are rules. You get an IM telling you that you can get an armor unlock for Mass Effect 3 simply by downloading the free demo for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. So you do… and then you play it, because why not? And then the demo ends, and you ask yourself, Hey, surely one more game wouldn’t hurt.

Yes. Yes, it would.

#rsrh Further GOP debates: keep, or lose?

Ed Morrissey notes this Byron York article about how Mitt Romney would probably like to stop the debates now, please. This is my thinking on this.

On the one hand, I agree with Ed: we’ve had a godawful amount of debates so far. They’re exhausting to cover; I can only imagine how grinding they are to the people actually doing them. From Mitt Romney’s point of view, a debate must be much like how Tom Wolfe portrayed physical examinations as being for fighter pilots. Which is to say, the best that Romney can hope for in a debate right now is to not have a campaign-ending disaster.
On the other hand, I also agree with Ed: we’re actually starting to see things that look like debates, instead of an extended poking of Republican candidates with sticks to see whether they’ll attack the bars. Also, as Byron noted, the debates are popular (the ABC News poll had 6.25 million viewers).
And on the gripping hand: well, this is probably not a good time for Mitt Romney to quit debates anyway. Yesterday was… not optimal: Romney got punched hard by Santorum, frankly evaded his way through the question of whether he’d release his income tax statements, and spent most of the debate agreeing with Rick Perry. I would seriously recommend that Romney quit the debate schedule when he’s in a slightly better pole position.

I think that this is a reasonably fair take on the subject.

In general:

Democratic Big Labor cronies are submitting recall petitions today to force a recall election of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch. They claim to have enough to weather the inevitable challenges.
This latest exercise in partisan petulance is scheduled to cost the state of Wisconsin 9 million dollars’ worth of taxpayer money, once you factor in all the state- and municipal-level Democratic temper tantrums. And here we thought that getting Democrats out of office would stop them from wasting productive people’s money.
Governor Walker has already amassed a $5.1 million dollar war chest for this nonsense, and he can raise as much as he darn well pleases. There’s going to be a lot of money poured into these recall elections, by the way; money that the Democrats in particular are going to miss.
