Shadowrun: Hong Kong has dropped!

I’ll let you know what I think, once it downloads and I’ve actually played it. If you want to buy it, it’ll have to be (so far) on Steam: it ain’t showing up on Amazon yet.  Which is a shame, because I’m gonna be flogging the Amazon links pretty hard this week.

Seriously, I’ve been looking forward to this… but I’d like them to maybe turn all of this more into a shared-world kind of thing. I dunno how you’d do that, of course. Maybe an MMO?

LA’s little shade balls problem.

I understand that this is a problem, but…

LA’s scheme to cover a reservoir under 96 million “shade balls” may not be all it is touted to be, experts told FoxNews.com, with some critics going so far as to refer to the plan as a “potential disaster.”

[snip]

Experts differed over the best color for the tiny plastic balls, with one telling FoxNews.com they should have been white and another saying a chrome color would be optimal. But all agreed that the worst color for the job is the one LA chose.

…I apologize in advance. Continue reading LA’s little shade balls problem.

Movie of the Week: Pitch Black.

The sequel was, perhaps a bit much if you weren’t a fan of Warhammer 30K: but Pitch Black itself was a pretty hardcore and viciously-efficient entry in the horror/SF genre. Vin Diesel did a good job there. It’s worth revisiting… with the lights on, of course.

Sorry. Just my little joke.

And so, adieu to Kingsman: The Secret Service. …FREEBIRD! Sorry, more of the japery. Continue reading Movie of the Week: Pitch Black.

Interesting: Rep Elijah Cummings may be positioning himself for Maryland Senate run.

This man used to be my Congressman, and about the best I can say for Rep. Cummings is that he’s not the absolute worst Democratic politician in Maryland.  I don’t even really despise him; I’m just kind of contemptuous of the way that Cummings has done precisely zero beyond get himself nicely situated in the machine. It was a happy day when that racist redistricting plan the Maryland legislature shoved through shoved me into some other Democrat’s bailiwick; it meant that I could stop caring about Elijah Cummings directly, as it were. Quote of the Day, I Have This Problem Myself.

Not as badly as I used to have it, but still.

Most of the words I know I got from books, which I thought were my friends, but they don’t necessarily have pronunciation keys and also the English language is a kaleidoscopic whorehouse.

It won’t surprise you to learn that my stunted, hairless translucence was borne of a largely solitary childhood that involved me learning words alone, and then saying them to myself, without the civilizing benefit of the social mirror.

As you can imagine, being in a situation where most of my communication is done via text – yes, like we’re doing here! – and my verbal communication mostly involves small children hasn’t exactly helped matters, either. I probably need more hobbies. Ones that maybe don’t require a wifi signal.

You know, I’m just gonna shift it over to mostly non-political this week.

There’s almost nothing in the way of political news going on right now anyway. Gotta love August, huh? – Well, no: not if your gig involves covering stuff that happens in Dizzy City, and the entire town’s gone for the month. Great for the country; not so great for hitcount on this blog. Continue reading You know, I’m just gonna shift it over to mostly non-political this week.

Wait. Did progressives sneak in a white dude in #blacklivesmatter in order to control it?

Because that would be hysterical.  See, there’s this guy called Shaun King, who is – or at least was – fairly well involved with #blacklivesmatter, or BLM.  He apparently gives good copy, too: always ready to give the media the quotes they need. …You know where this is going ,right?

[Shaun] King has been lionised by the press, praised as hero of civil rights and social activism. He has written extensively about a childhood in which he was terrorised by “decades old racial tensions.” He claims to have been “the focus of constant abuse of the resident rednecks of my school.”

Yet, in recent weeks, rumours have been circulating about his ethnicity.

So, if you’re buying school supplies… [Shameless Amazon link-begging]

…like I just did – hoo, boy, this can get expensive. May I suggest that you jump on it now and get it all from Amazon? – Because I would really, really like to suggest that you jump on it now and get it all from Amazon.

Seriously. Do it now before you have to stare at insane shipping fees to get it all in time. I almost – almost – was too late myself.
