Peter Mayhew passes the bowcaster to Joonas Suotamo for Han Solo film.

This is… well, it’s not horrible news. Peter Mayhew is in his 70s, he’s playing Chewbacca in The Last Jedi, and probably will in the next one, too. And certainly Joonas Suotamo has been understudying for the role. But it’s still kind of sad to see how time marches on. Suotamo strikes the right note, here:

I’m telling ya, the kid grows up to be Snoke.

That’s the only way this works.

The conclusion of a trilogy, mostly set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, Empire’s End contains plenty of rewards for long-term fans. One of these is an interlude set on the planet of Naboo. A refugee boy named Mapo encounters a Gungan performing for kids on the streets, clowning around in a fountain twice a day while being studiously avoided by the grown-ups.

“Meesa Jar Jar,” says the clown when Mapo introduces himself.

Because we all know that Jar Jar was the secret Sith Lord setting the whole thing up, right?  Well, Darth Binks has just found himself a new apprentice.  Seriously, the chronology will fit.

The not-WEG’s long-awaited Galaxy Guide 13: Rogue One RPG supplement.

Hey, did you enjoy seeing those pictures of the Rogue One crew that were drawn in West End Games’ Star Wars RPG’s style?

Covert Media /Broken Road to create Star Wars parody, lawsuit(?).

Well, I ASSUME that there’s going to be a good chance for the latter:

A spoof of the Star Wars franchise is in development with Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, whose credits include the Scary Movie franchise, “Epic Movie” and “Vampires Suck.”

The duo will write and direct the project, titled “Star Worlds Episode XXXIVE=MC2: The Force Awakens The Last Jedi Who Went Rogue.” Covert Media’s CEO Paul Hanson (“District 9”) is producing the film alongside Broken Road Productions’ Todd Garner (“True Memoirs of an International Assassin”).

…(Via GeekTyrant) This should be a fascinating contest of the irresistible force meeting the immovable object.  On one hand, we have the Mouse.  On the other hand, we have the entire question of just how protected parodies are… which is danged convoluted. Seriously, the more I refreshed my memory on this, the more complicated it got. And on the gripping hand, Disney pretty much does nothing to go after porn parodies of its stuff (DO NOT SEARCH FOR EXAMPLES, IF YOU LOVE YOUR EYES), so maybe they won’t care, after all.  Which sounds… weird, no?

Tweet of the Day, Yes, Obi-wan, You Really Should edition.

Hey.  We all yelled something like that at the screen, didn’t we? …What, that was just me?  Well, dammit, you missed an opportunity, then.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Supposedly, that’s the name: “STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is scheduled for release December 15, 2017.” Which definitely suggests that we’re going to see at least the Jedi training stuff from Empire Strikes Back being evoked in this film. Although… not to be unkind about this, but: the Jedi do not exactly have the best historical track record when it comes to either the Force, or the proper care and feeding of the galaxy.  For that matter, neither do the Sith. In fact, they’re both pretty much filled with habitual screw-ups, aren’t they?  Possibly they should just junk the whole thing and start over.

“But… but… but… lightsabers!”  Yes, yes, lightsabers are cool.  But old dudes on remote planets distributing laser swords is no basis for a system of government.

Rogue One demonstrates that reshoots are not always bad.

Often they are bad. We have all seen how a last-minute change can derail a flick (coughcoughIAmLegendcoughcough). But in this particular case it apparently worked out pretty good for Rogue One (many, many spoilers in that link):

Star Wars: Rogue One has been in theaters for just about a month, and it is safe to say the movie is a huge success. Not only has the first ever live-action theatrically released Star Wars Anthology movie to take place outside of the Skywalker saga done very well at the box office, but it has been very well received by fans. One of the main reasons for that was the presence of Darth Vader, specifically his final scene. It turns out that scene wasn’t originally in the movie.

I’m a little surprised that something like that last scene wasn’t originally in the film, to be honest. I mean, you’d think that they would have shot it as early as they could.  Out of sheer anticipation for Filming Something Neat…

Lucasfilm* will NOT CGI Carrie Fisher in future Star Wars movies.

(Via Nerdbastards) This seems fairly straightforward:

We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.

Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars.

We’re all doomed: they upgraded Star Wars: X-Wing for modern computers.

This is really, really, REALLY bad.  I have to EAT and SLEEP and WEAR SHOES every so often. This is not going to be helpful:
