07/01/2020 Report, FROZEN DREAMS Kickstarter.

Today was not one of the glamorous days for FROZEN DREAMS, per se.

  • The most important thing was that I got the short story sampler out to Kickstarter backers. Six stories, one of them previously unpublished on Patreon or anywhere else; they’ll be in the full compilation, too. These have been edited, but not professionally, and the sampler will not be commercially available. You can still get it via the pre-order store, but the store will probably be closing after the audiobook becomes available.
  • The paperback books are on their way! They should get here tomorrow, and I’ve straightened out my problems with Backerkit Postage, so I should be able to process them… starting next week. I’ve ordered shipping supplies, and the postage itself can wait until I’ve gotten a good weight for the packages.
  • Finally, I sat down and assigned tentative page numbers for the various sections of the worldbook. I’m tentatively thinking 48 pages for it; I go round and round whether that should be 48 total, or 48 besides the rules. If the latter, then the book goes up to 64 pages, and I have to write considerably more. I may have to tap some old RPG support networks for this one.

A productive day, in other words, but not exactly exciting. Well, they can’t all be a thrill ride, right?

FERMI RESOLUTION Short story sampler away!

If you’re a backer for FROZEN DREAMS, you should be getting an email with a link to the short story sampler at any moment. It’s in .mobi, .epub, and .pdf form. A few things to note:

  • This sampler has been edited, but not professionally. It will be, when the stories become part of the larger short story collection that I’ll be doing after this project is over. I’ve done a few pass-throughs and had people beta-read it, but think of this as an advanced reader copy. Typos and whatnot may be present, and there may be changes later.
  • It’s thus not commercially available. This is the only place you’re going to be able to read the original short story until I do the full collection (which will have at least one more original story in it).
  • If there are any issues, let me know!

And that’s mostly it. Next up: the books! They’re supposed to arrive any day now.

Fermi Resolution RPG will have @bfleuter for artwork.

I’ve announced this before, but it’s locked down now: the Fermi Resolution TT RPG worldbook (Powered by GUMSHOE) will have original artwork by Ben Fleuter. Ben, for those of you who do not already read Sword Interval – and if you do not, then please start reading Sword Interval – is a first-rate cartoonist who I’ve wanted an excuse to throw money at for some time now. I think that his aesthetic will work very, very well with this project.

Drives for the FERMI RESOLUTION RPG setting.

What I’ve been working on tonight, among other things. GUMSHOE tries pretty hard to keep the players on track to play, and Drives are a helpful way to do that. As the below notes:

Each PC follows a drive, a personal motivation giving him, her or it good reason to act heroically and curiously. By following your drive, you keep the story moving and ensure that your behavior is in keeping with the adventuring-investigative genre.

Some GUMSHOE adaptation work for FERMI RESOLUTION campaign project up on Patreon.

I think mostly what I need to do with this project is duplicate the stuff that you’d need to generate a character* and equipment lists, then just direct them to use the main rules in Trail of Cthulhu or whatever. This is supposed to be a campaign world for the Kickstarter, not a standalone game. It’s also supposed to be something besides a ten year project.
