I TOLD YOU ALL Sony would deal and give up 25% of Spider-Man to Disney. I DID.

I absolutely did. August 23rd.

I figure that Sony will try to seriously hold Disney to getting 20% or 25%, instead of the 5% that the Mouse is getting now. Since Disney was asking for 50%, that may even be doable.

Welp, they’re absolutely doing Marvel Zombies in WHAT IF…?

That’s pretty clear. Via GeekTyrant:

I’m not gonna guess about the rest of ’em, but Cap-as-zombie is pretty obvious. Not to mention the one that the fans are probably most eager to see. Marvel Zombies is one of those things that ended up being a bit more popular than Marvel expected; bringing them in on WHAT IF…? seems like a no-brainer.

Yes, I am sorry. No, I can see myself out.

What… exactly is WandaVision going to BE?

Is this really going to be a sitcom? Because WandaVision kind of looks like a sitcom. Heck, it looks like the cover art for an independent-press TTRPG about 1950s superheroes.

I’m not objecting, just bemused.

I have a counter-fan theory on the Gosling/Waititi lunch. [UPDATED.]

[UPDATED: God damn but that’s embarrassing. Lemme wash this egg off my face, and thanks to Constant Reader Zamoose for catching that. Still: Taika Waititi doing a Deadpool flick? That’d be awesome, right? – ML]

First off, though: Ryan Gosling and Taika Waititi, as GeekTyrant itself admits, probably had lunch together because it was Waititi’s birthday. Hey, happy birthday, Taika Waititi! Many happy returns.

Anyway, GeekTyrant would like this to be really about Deadpool being in the next Thor movie. Which… does not work for me, sorry. Wrong theme and style for what Waititi seems to be aiming at in his Thor flicks. I mean, sure, trippy and stuff, but Deadpool is later-day trippy and a good deal more violent than the Jack Kirby vibe Waititi’s going for.

On the other hand? I’d watch a Deadpool flick directed by Waititi. Because he’d go nuts with the source material, embrace the weird, maybe make Vanessa Dea… oh. Oh, my, yes, that would fix the major complication from the last Deadpool really, really nicely. And I’d double watch that movie, then.

But it was probably just a birthday lunch.

Wesley Snipes cool with neither being Blade, nor having to eat boiled chicken for the rest of eternity.

I’m guessing the latter part from context.

Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige shocked the world at Comic-Con when Mahershala Ali was announced as the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s Blade. Ali takes over for Wesley Snipes, who played the Daywalker in the original trilogy. ComicBook.com has obtained a statement from Snipes, telling fans of his to “chillaaxx” and embrace the new casting.

Some interesting MCU Phase 4 stuff to unpack.

And before anybody says anything: look, folks, they’ve been setting it up for a bunch of movies now that people besides Thor can wield Mjolnir. As I understand the comics, if they follow them then Jane Foster will eventually become a Valkyrie or something anyway. At any rate, they haven’t even started filming Thor: Love and Thunder; none of this is gonna be written in stone.

Taika Waititi to do Thor 4, at the expense of Akira.

That’s pretty much what that boils down to: Taika Waititi will direct the next Thor movie, but they’re going to have to push back Akira (which he is/was already supposed to direct) in exchange. Let me be honest: I fully expected that a live-action Akira would be horrible, although I didn’t realize that Waititi would be directing it. Another Thor movie with Waititi directing it will likely not be horrible, so this works out as being an net improvement.

Akira fans are, of course, free to disagree with me on this topic, and I will fully understand and not take offense.

The Captain Marvel Honest Trailer.

It’s very insightful — which is to say, it matched my opinion of the movie. I never thought that Captain Marvel was actually bad for what it was, which was a Marvel origin story. It occurs to me that that’s the problem that most Marvel origin stories had: they’re only origin stories, instead of the ‘superhero + something else’ model that the best MCU flicks have*.

…Clobbering time? 2022 Fantastic Four movie rumors abound.

MoeLane.com cannot confirm, but will eagerly quote, the following:

The GWW is hearing, but cannot confirm, that Marvel Studios is aiming for a 2022 release for the ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot. Sources also say that ‘Ant-Man’ director Peyton Reed is pushing to direct, and has already pitched his vision for the movie to Feige multiple times. Reed’s pitch includes a 1960s setting that involves the Quantum Realm, and possibly The Black Knight.
