The Alien: Covenant “Bring in the Fool-Killer!” trailer.

I’m just going to come out and say what I’m thinking, here:  these idiots in Alien: Covenant kind of encapsulate Niven/Pournelle’s old saying “Think of it as evolution in action.”

And I don’t believe I’m the only one thinking it, either.  This entire escapade, from what I can tell, fell off of the stupid tree and hit every door down. You don’t walk onto the surface of a new world without wearing a spacesuit. Doesn’t matter if the air is breathable: in fact, you take double precautions in that case.  Why?  Oh, I don’t know: maybe because there’s a possibility that something in the ecosystem might be eager to take a bite out of you? If you like a particular artist/actor/creative type, best to tell them now.

Seriously, if you’ve been meaning to do that, stop meaning to do that and just do that.  And not just because this was a hellyear for funerals. A lot of artists, for some inexplicable reason, feel that they’re full of crap and their stuff is full of crap and nobody cares about what they create.  Go tell one that you care.

Happy Boxing Day!

…You should have seen this post before I edited it to hide the effects of a drink-heavy dinner with my wife (my sisters and mother have taken the children out bowling). Beers and Irish coffee can have a profound effect on a man, particularly when he no longer drinks competitively. Best of all, the bar was maybe a block away, with no dangerous streets to cross while on foot and half in the bag (to quote the folk sayings of my ancestors). Whee!

I hope everybody has had a good Christmas, so far. It’s been pretty painless for me and mine, equally so far. Hope that continues until I’m safely back home…
