Had a productive talk with Backerkit today.

The word of the day is discoverability. This is what Backerkit felt I wanted for my crowdfunding projects; and as soon as I heard the word, I agreed with them. The problem is not that I’m at all worried that the Fermi Resolution Worldbook will not fund. I’m not worried, because it will fund, and very possibly on the first day. What I’m trying to do with this project is go beyond my usual supporters* and pull in people who will be discovering my stuff for the first time. That is a somewhat different problem to solve.

Doing prices for the FERMI RESOLUTION WORLDBOOK TTRPG.

These are the numbers that I’m thinking of for the FERMI RESOLUTION TTRPG:

Softcover, Large, Regular Color$29.95
Hardcover, Large, Regular Color$34.95
Digital File$14.95

I have to think of them now because I need to come up with pledge levels for the Backerkit (it’d be awesome if you signed up for notifications for that, by the way). The book will be about 150 pages, and have a bunch of art. Do these numbers feel right to you? It’s a self-contained book using the GUMSHOE rules.

How much SHOULD I price the RPG for?

I’m trying to calculate best costs for the PDF and print version of the FERMI RESOLUTION worldbook for the Backerkit (sign up for notifications here). I’m just not sure what the numbers would be. Assume roughly 144 pages, softcover, color interiors but not the special paper; it’s a complete game, with plenty of professional-grade, non-AI art.

How much would you buy that for? And how much would you spend for the PDF?

The Fermi Resolution Worldbook RPG project is a go!

Today I talked with the guy who’ll be doing the layout stuff, and we set up a schedule for work and payments. Now all I have to do is get the Backerkit up and running. The current plan is to publish through DriveThruRPG; I’m reviewing the details now, but it looks like I can get them to do distribution of both my digital and print rewards.

Note: this project will not launch before February of 2025. You can sign up for notifications here!

The Trail of Cthulhu 2nd Edition Backerkit.

One of the reasons I can’t afford the Discworld Kickstarter is because I can barely afford the Trail of Cthulhu Backerkit. Which is also a reason why I didn’t try to suck up for money, or anything. I’m picking which toys to save up for!

Again, though: but if you want to buy my books as Christmas gifts for people, well, that would be awesome.

Working on the Backerkit Store this morning!

Basically, the next two weeks will be about Kickstarter resolving the money stuff, so I have some time to work on the store and fulfillment. I also need to spend this weekend assessing what still needs to be done to the stories themselves before I send them out to alpha readers (my editor’s going through a couple of things, so I have a little more time there than I expected). Alas, none of this is particular sexy, but that’s how it goes.

In the meantime, check out REVISIONARY! This is my Cthulhu Mythos chapbook, and it’s full of cosmic horror goodness. And that’s kind of subtle cosmic horror goodness, no less! I don’t go in much for the gore and the viscera and so forth. That sort of this is perfectly fine, but it’s not always something I’m great at writing. I think I do better anyway at “Hold on, what did you just say?” Check it out!

A helpful seminar on Backerkit.

On the topic of splash pages (I’ve since updated it: see here for the new version). I do have to say that Backerkit has consistently been a genuinely helpful resource for me in my crowdfunding activities. Their staff is responsive and professional, the company make a lot of resources available for crowdfunders to use, and the resources are legitimately useful. I can happily recommend them for anybody interested in getting the most out of their crowdfunding.

Yeah, this just looks better than what I had put up originally.

I AM LOCKING ORDERS FOR TINSEL RAIN.

IF YOU HAVE NOT YET COMPLETED YOUR SURVEY, PLEASE DO SO. IN FORTY-EIGHT HOURS I WILL LOCK ORDERS, AND START GENERATING POSTAGE. PLEASE COMPLETE YOUR SURVEY AND MAKE ANY FINAL PURCHASES BEFORE THEN. THE STORE IS HERE IF YOU WANT TO ADD ANYTHING TO YOUR ORDER, OR PRE-ORDER SOMETHING.

Sorry for yelling, except that I’m not. Not that I’m mad, either; it’s just that this is not my first Backerkit fulfilment. You have to be loud about these things.
