#rsrh Meg Whitman minces no words.

Nice to see that she’s not going to pretend for the sake of a largely imaginary ‘comity’ (defined as ‘A Republican smiling when a Democrat says something vile about him or her’):

“The real tragedy here is Nicky. After Nov. 2, no one’s going to be watching out for Nicky Diaz. And Jerry, you know you should be ashamed, you and your surrogates … put her deportation at risk. You put it out there and you should be ashamed for sacrificing Nicky Diaz on the altar of your political ambitions.”

Mind you, Jerry Brown is as unacquainted with shame as he is courage: he wants to be Governor of California, and that would be worth any number of Nicky Diazs.  Besides, it’s her own fault, really: if Nicky Diaz wanted to be treated as an actual human being by the Californian Democratic establishment then she should have arranged matters so that she had been born an Anglo.

Brown’s immigration smear of Whitman continues to unravel.

Two things to take away from this San Francisco Chronicle article (H/T: The Other McCain) on Jerry Brown’s Gloria Allred’s nonsensical attacks on Meg Whitman:

First, this sentence: “Lawyers said an employer’s obligation upon receiving a no-match letter from the Social Security Administration is to check their own records for typographical or other errors, inform the employee that the records do not match and tell the employee to correct them.”  Which is pretty much what the scrawl on the letter told Diaz to do (please see Greta van Susterin’s disembowelment of Gloria Allred for further details on said letter).  In fact, the action that Allred is apparently demanding would… wait for it, wait for it… have put Meg Whitman in danger of a discrimination lawsuit! Translation: Whitman followed the law.

Second, it’s kind of contemptible that Jerry Brown can’t fight his own battles, isn’t it? – Because let’s not pretend that this isn’t being done for Brown’s benefit.  I’d also make some commentary on whether Brown would try something this cheap against a male candidate, but for some reason it’s considered uncouth to point out that male Democratic politicians don’t consider any blow to be too low when it comes to dealing with their female opponents.  Still, I see no reason to let Brown get away with this: he’s Attorney General, so he knows the law.  And he knows that Whitman followed it, so he needs to come out and disavow it.

Which he won’t.  Because Jerry Brown is a coward.  And a sneak.

SF Chronicle goes as far as it can to support Fiorina.

Which is not their endorsement of her – then again, an endorsement of the Republican candidate for Senate by the San Francisco Chronicle would be about as likely as my being able to get to the Moon by jumping up and down on the ground hard enough. What they did instead was to give as strong a statement about Carly’s technical campaign skills as possible…

In past elections, Boxer has had the good fortune of having Republican opponents who were inept, underfunded, on the fringe right – or combinations thereof. Her opponent this time, Fiorina, is proving to be articulate, well-funded and formidable.

So, there has been a veritable litany of bad stimulus-related news lately for California:

  • 12.4% unemployment
  • 110 million in stimulus money in LA = 55 jobs, thanks to, of course, red tape
  • National trust in the administration’s ability to help the economy now underwater, 30/33

…and Barbara Boxer’s reaction?  It would’ve been worse without the stimulus (not a direct quote*).  Which caused ABC7 political analyst Bruce Cain to wax sarcastic:

Wait, what?


A quote from the video: “Meg Whitman. She stops at nothing. She’s even got Clinton lying about me. That’s right.” Note the tense, there… and, yes, that’s what Brown really said. And a little while later he went on to mock Bill Clinton by saying “I did not have taxes with that state.”

I assume that Brown wants to win the California gubernatorial election, yes? The one in 2010?

Boxer pot aide should have gone with different drug.

You have probably read or heard by now that one of Senator Barbara Boxer’s used-to-be-senior-aides got busted for trying to bring pot into Capitol Hill. I say ‘used-to-be’ because they fired him, of course: aside from the bad image generally, as the Politico article notes Sen. Boxer is currently being a War on Some Drugs warrior when it comes to pot legalization. Now, I will not pretend that I do not have a certain rough sympathy for the fellow, coupled with a healthy contempt for his underlying arrogance. As someone privately commented to me on the matter, it must be pretty bad having to got to work for a Senator like Boxer every day: you’d almost need a painkiller. And/or a powerful anti-nauseant. As this is thus only indirectly Sen. Boxer’s fault, I’m not inclined to rake her personally over the coals for this.

However, I would like to know why she’s buying her own contraband – to wit, purchasing the endorsement of a woman who is up on ethics charges for using her position to profit family members. Rasmussen: Whitman clears 50% in CA-GOV.

That’s with leaners (51/43): without leaners  Meg Whitman’s ‘only’ up 48/40 over Moonbeam Brown. Which is itself a switch from an earlier 43/41 Brown lead from a Rasmussen poll from a couple of weeks ago.  Whitman is benefiting from strong Republican support, weak Democratic support of Brown, and winning independents… not to mention not being Moonbeam Brown.

In other news, Moonbeam is still trying to explain away his attempts to use government resources to fundraise from anti-American and anti-military hate groups. Apparently, he’ll take their dirty money, but he doesn’t want to associate with them too closely:

State of the Race: Carly Fiorina (R CAND, CA-SEN).

I had the opportunity to talk with Carly yesterday on what is happening in the race right now. For those not following the Avastin controversy, it’s a cancer medication that is currently the target of a drive to have its FDA approval removed for last-stage breast cancer patients. Claims that this is primarily for financial reasons have been bolstered by this report from the BBC (via Hot Air) that the NHS is disallowing it for bowel cancer patients because it’s too expensive*. You can imagine how Carly feels about that… actually, you don’t have to imagine: you can listen to the interview.

Moonbeam Brown protested at Code Pink shindig.

This report of a lie-in by pro-victory in Iraq protesters at a fundraiser held for Jerry Brown by notorious terrorist sympathizer Jodie Evans highlights a very, very serious set of questions involving not only Brown’s associations, but also his own motivations. The fact that Brown is attempting to get Code Pink’s money like this leads to various questions:

  • Jodie Evans once reportedly told a Gold Star Mother that her son deserved to die in Iraq. Does Jerry Brown agree with her?
  • Evans was a long-time supporter of genocidal mass murderer Saddam Hussein; as recently as the summer of 2008 she was nostalgic for a regime that routinely murdered, raped, and ethnically cleansed its internal enemies.  Is Jerry Brown likewise nostalgic for the days of pogroms and acts of ecocide against the Marsh Arabs?
  • Evans sat on the advisory board of International Occupation Watch, a group that conspired to convince US soldiers to desert.  Jerry Brown: pro- or anti-desertion? Excuse me: “conscientious objection.”
  • Jodie Evans’ Code Pink planned and brought off “protests” designed to attack critically wounded, recovering soldiers and their families.  What method does Jerry Brown use to keep from throwing his drink in Jodie Evans’ face?  Does he need one?
  • In 2009, Evans  helped provide material aid to Hamas in Gaza.  Are some of Jerry Brown’s best friends Jews?
  • As is exhaustively noted here, Jodie Evans and Jerry Brown have had a long, long shared political history.  Where does Jerry Brown differ from her?  Specific examples, please: we already know that he likes her money.

Meet Mattie Fein (R CAND, CA-36).

Mattie is running in Jane “Wasn’t Newsweek sweet to write that about me” Harman’s seat, which is one of those seats that reminds you that ‘Democratic hawk politician’ is about as much an oxymoron as ‘conservative Democratic politician’ is. Mattie had a bit to say about that, and the seat in general:

Mattie’s site is here: I would also like to note that this particular district is heavily dependent on the aerospace and defense industries, which means of course that it’s getting hammered by this administration’s changed priorities. That makes it perhaps a little more vulnerable than one might think.
