#rsrh FL-18 Watch: Allen West campaign kicks Patrick Murphy campaign in the groin.

You read this Roll Call article, and you get the feeling that the author was doing his level best not to laugh at Murphy:

For those without video: it’s an ad that compares what Rep. West and Mr. Murphy were doing on the night of February 16, 2003: West was getting ready to deploy to Iraq, while Murphy was ending a night of bar fights and public intoxication by getting arrested.  Hold on, let me preserve a screen shot for posterity:

#rsrh DCCC admits DOOM in NC-08, FL-18: SEIU does likewise in WI-08.

I first saw the tip-off from @mattmackowiak, but said tweet unfortunately needs some typos corrected:

  • FL-18 (not FL-08): “The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee canceled a week of airtime in Rep. Allen West’s (R-Fla.) district starting Oct. 9, according to multiple sources tracking the buy.”
  • NC-08: “The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee canceled a second week of advertising in Kissell’s 8th district. Roll Call has learned that the DCCC’s independent expenditure arm canceled a reservation for advertising in the Charlotte media market from Oct. 9-15. This comes after the DCCC canceled a reservation from Oct. 2-8, as first reported by Roll Call.“
  • WI-08 (not WI-07): “The Service Employees International Union [NOT the DCCC – ML] has canceled a previously scheduled television ad buy in support of businessman Jamie Wall’s (D) challenge of Rep. Reid Ribble (R).”

Nonetheless: good news for the Republican House majority.  Whether the Democrats like to admit it or not, not having the money to protect one beleaguered incumbent and challenge two House freshmen is rarely good news.

Well, it’s rarely good news for the party without the money.  I imagine that the GOP finds this very good news indeed.

Via @SissyWillis.  I suggest that the Democratic party get used to this line of attack, because it’s going to get repeated from Bangor to San Diego, and from Seattle to Key West.  Unforced errors of this magnitude usually are.

Elizabeth Warren’s Occupiers to attack Tampa’s EMS during GOP convention?

“EMS” standing for “Emergency Medical Services,” of course.  Anyway, that’s the claim – and let us not pretend that the Occupy Movement has not been fully converted into a front for the blackshirt anarchists, shall we?  The following will be familiar to anyone who watched how the antiwar movement got hijacked by the exact same people:

So people have to remember, this isn’t a bunch of unorganized and disorganized kids. This is Lisa Fithian, she’s the one who led the unions and the anarchists to shut down Seattle at the ’99 World Trade Organization protest in Seattle. It’s not something to play around with because when this is all said and done the FBI informants will have stopped bomb plots just as they and I did last time. And when that happens conservatives need to rally around because the left media and the entire left establishment who claims they have nothing to do with these anarchists, they will defend them and dirty the name of anybody who exposes them just as they did to me and just as they did to Andrew. They will defend their darlings and attack the character of anyone who holds them accountable and calls them out. And that’s what’s going to happen this time. We need to stand up as a movement, recognize what the threats are, and we need to defend the people who are keeping us safe and hold accountable and demand accountability for the people who are trying to interfere with our rights to assemble.

The other thing that they’re trying to do is that they have a coms group—and this is breaking news you need to know this—they have a coms group that is trying to shut down the EMS communications structure for the city. That’s really happening. They’re trying to shut down the communications structure for the city for law enforcement and emergency medical personnel.

#rsrh Trust the NYT magazine to make a mountain out of a macaque.

Background: there’s a macaque monkey loose in Tampa Bay.  It’s been there for years, and generally speaking, the populace is perfectly fine with that.  The government is not, but it has not successfully captured the beast, apparently because it is chasing a super-genius macaque monkey which is also being pretty much aided and abetted by the human citizenry.  This will keep happening until the monkey either flips out and actually attacks people, or it dies of old age.  The end.

But in the hands of the NYT, we get a parable about compromise.  Although, to be fair: you can see where that part was grafted on.  So I blame the editor, not the author.

So, to review the bidding: when Romney picked Ryan, Establishment Democrats (and their liberal lackeys) cackled in response that the GOP would now have to hide from the entire state of Florida, thanks to Mediscare.  No way that they were going to go all-in, there.

Karen Harrington (R CAND, FL-23) invites Paul Ryan to campaign in her district.

I happened to be on a conference call with FL-23 candidate Karen Harrington, who of course is the person facing DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz in the general election.  So it’s going to be a tough race; after all, if there’s any seat that the Democrats would be personally embarrassed to lose, it’d be this one.  But when I asked directly whether Karen Harrington would welcome Paul Ryan campaigning for her in the district, she replied:

Absolutely… it would be a honor to have someone of Paul Ryan’s stature. Absolutely: not just because he’s the Vice President [nominee]; if he didn’t accept that role, and it was just Congressman Paul Ryan I would welcome him.

I bring this up because a number of people started this week by suggesting that adding Paul Ryan to the ticket would hurt the GOP downticket, particularly in states like Florida.  While that argument seems to have largely died off – mostly of embarrassment, apparently – I would be remiss in my duties if I didn’t point out that Republican candidates and politicians don’t seem to be particularly nervous about the Ryan pick.  In fact, the default emotion that I’ve been detecting seems to be relief… Continue reading Karen Harrington (R CAND, FL-23) invites Paul Ryan to campaign in her district.

#rsrh I have a complicated reaction to this Chick-fil-A story.

Background: local Florida reporter for the News-Press goes to Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, says a lot of rude things about it on Facebook, gets canned for it.  So, here’s how it looks to me, after the fact:

  • On the one hand, when I say ‘rude things’ I mean ‘really rude things.’  The guy clearly came to the event spoiling for a fight, or at least for something that could be usefully filmed; and he didn’t seem to find any that could be documented.  In fact,  the guy’s accusations of racism and horrible behavior is not backed up by his former newspaper’s own reporting.  Which is undoubtedly why the guy was fired by the News-Press; he was saying stuff in public that was actually calling into question the newspaper’s professional ethics.
  • On the other hand: this isn’t really a story about reporters hating Chick-fil-A: it’s a story about whether the stuff that you post as a private individual should impact your employment status.  In this case, there was sufficient provocation: the guy was essentially saying that his own paper was lying about the event, and he got caught doing it*. But what would have happened if the reporter hadn’t lied? If, instead, he had simply used his personal site to be a hate-ridden bigot who wasn’t making false accusations? Would he still have gotten fired? …Maybe; and I have to say, I have a certain inclination towards allowing people to be schmucks on their own time.
  • On the gripping hand: if we’re firing people, can we somehow fire this godawful Lefty poet defending said schmuck?  SCANSION. METER. RHYME.  OUR ANCESTORS DEVELOPED THEM FOR A REASON, SPARKY. LEARN IT. LIVE IT. LOVE IT.

OK, I’ve now gotten that out my system.

RS Interview: Aaron Bean (R-CAND, FL State Senate 4 PRI)

This is the other state-level interview (Florida) that I’ve done recently (more or less because of the RedState Gathering): again, I encourage people to interview their own state-level candidates and politicians.  These races matter.
